Pull on your wool socks and crack open a 2° Below Ale. This tasty winter warmer started life as a small batch beer brewed for the Al Johnson Uphill Downhill – a telemark ski race in Crested Butte, Colorado. The Uphill Downhill celebrates the exploits of Al Johnson, letter carrier extraordinaire, who delivered mail by ski in the late 1800’s. Dry hopping during fermentation creates a floral nose with a hint of pepper and spicy, subtle undertones. 2° Below provides a bright, hoppy palate and a cheery warm afterglow.

Bottle. Light amber with a small off white head. Dirty sock, green/vegetable aroma. Bitter vegetable/ green flavor. Thin carbonated mouth feel. Did not find enjoyable.

12 oz bottle. Piney hop aroma, some hay, some caramel malt. Pours golden iwth minimal head, good lacing. Tastes of cereal grains, hops. A little thin, a little watery. Kind of sweet--surprising considering the piney hop aroma. Different kind of winter brew.

Clear amber pour, with a smallish lace - flavor is medium sweet at first, but in the long term, herbal hops and toasted grains dominate - a bit of nutty character through the middle - sweetness returns in the finish, as a warming spiciness sets in for the finish - the sweetness mixes with the herbal character of the hops to create a flavor not unlike sweetened iced tea - decent, but like most NB beers, it eventually suffers from being too sweet.

Deep amber coloured body with ruby highlights and a very thin off-white head. Aroma of fresh hops (dry hopped), toffee, malt and a bit of concord grapes. Medium-bodied; Strong metallic taste up front fading to a strong malt backbone covered with nuts and spices, all fading to a very subtle hop flavour. Aftertaste shows more of the hops, but even more of the nuts and malt. Overall, a decent beer - not my favourite from the brewery, but nice to try and probably fairly nice for the cold season here! I sampled this beer on draught at the New Belgium Hub in Denver International Airport on 26-November-2007.

courtesy of vasdef42 pours nice amber with frothy white head. Aroma has fresh notes of floral hops with light malts. Taste, is hoppy and floral with light touch of fruits. Render some sweet notes of caramel malts that remain in the background without altering the good balance of this beer. Finish is lightly bitter, though not too overly complex. Another amazing offering by New Belgium.

12oz bottle. Filtered amber-orange color. Nice small foamy head. Creamy and rich. Sort of an amber cream ale with moderate alcohol warmth. Easy drinking with a great mouthfeel, but lacks some complexity.

On draught at the New Belgium bar in the Denver airport. The beer is a clear ruddy orange-amber color with a wispy white head that disappears quickly. Spotty lacing. Toasted malt, dark fruit and mild hops in the nose. The body is medium and smooth with a malty character and some spice and hops flavors. The finish is equally malty and hoppy. Solidly average overall.

Not very good. Light hops and very little malt. It is kind of a mess, with an odd flavor of grain. Light brown color.

A better version of Fat Tire. Pours with a small, foamy, light brown head covering a clear bronze body. Hoppy and biscuty aroma with some raisins and pepper (smells a bit like a dog treat, but not in too bad of a way). Taste is biscut malts and pretty salty with a sweet finish. No bitterness anywhere to be found. Syrupy mouthfeel when servered at the recommended 37*.
