Tap at Mokichi. Very dark brown colour. Big golden head creamy. Aroma is smoky roast malt bit of chocolate, bit ginger, herbal, orange peel, fruity. Taste very roasty. Dark chocolate bitterness. Full bodied. But smooth. Smoky, touch of orange. Full on booze but not overpowering, very nice.

Pours viscosius black with a brown head. Nose is thick with cocoa, some toffee and dark-dark malts. Taste that follows keeps up with the same feel, very nice deep roast there, bitter milk chocolate and cocoa powder. Very good one, drinks above its 7.5%

Tap at Bungalow. The tan head of foam has a purple tint while the body is a deep inky black and has a savoury umami roasty aroma. Full bodied and luscious with good depth of flavor but the 7.5% and fullness don’t match the hot summer weather though.

Bottle from Tanakaya. Pours a pitch black with some deep ruby highlights and small dark tan head. Aromas of cacao, roasted malt, prune, fig and a tad of Belgian saison-like yeast. Some booze on the nose as it warms up. Lots of dark fruit and cacao on the palate. Very well-balanced and good roasted malt character (not burned or charred in the least). Very rich and full-flavored without being sweet. The finish leaves a nice saison like pepper flavor mixed with a touch of farmhouse funk. This is truly a great stout! --- Beer merged from original tick of Shonan Belgian Stout on 06 Mar 2016 at 00:06

Tastes of roasty notes, dark chocolate, caramel, Belgian yeast. Medium body with a dry finish. Creamy mouthfeel, medium-light carbonation.

300 ml bottle @ home. From an IP trade with TimE, if memory serves me well. Pitch black color. Light brown head. Aroma’s: vanilla, sweet malts, some licorice, mocha, roasted, light red fruit. Retronasal the roast is more upfront, then mocha, vanilla. Flavor is moderate sweet, roasted, light fruity. Body is medium. Bit low carbo. Finishes with heavy roast, ash, rather bitter. I fail to see what’s Belgian about this, but it’s awesome nonetheless.

Craft Clerkenwell. Tuesday Horal Chugging Tasting! Thanks to Leighton for this Japanese rarity! Opaque dark brown beer with a tidy tan head. Smooth palate, slightly soft. Rich dark malts, but not heavy. There is roast and a little coffee and dark malt cream. A light touch of tangy dark fruits. Smooth finish. Nice.
