Ah Cant Dog...I’ve held off trying this one for the 7 years I’ve been going to 3Tides/MW but for whatever reason, on 8/1/15, at the brewery, it was time. Dark copper-golden body is topped by a well-retained white head. High clarity. Certainly looks the part.
Some light candied cherry-like alcohol/esters a la Big Twitch, but a robust, pine-laced citrus. Some resin, inevitably, but it’s not bad especially given the high abv. I guess all that malt certainly helps cut things and while sweet is not obnoxiously so.
Very supple texture from all the malt, made even creamier by the tight carbonation. Pine and citrus do not wow with innovation or anything, but are pretty passable and the beer is pretty shockingly drinkable for its size. If you’re going this high in abv, though, I feel like you’ve got to have ALOT more going on, otherwise why drink a 10%abv beer when you can get this kind of hop flavor from a 5 or 6% beer (even here at the brewpub, Ace Hole provides almost as much hop flavor at half the liver damage). Clean, though quite estery. Bit of pine sap and chewy malt lingering...

Reviewed from notes.
This was poured into a tulip.
The appearance was a hazy orange with a nice glossy golden yellow color. The head was about a finger and a half of white foaminess. It died down after about a minute leaving some nice gentle lacing sticking for a little bit and then sliding into the beer.
The smell had a vast amount of grapefruit notes up front with a nice allocation of mango, lemon, and light lime to be the bittersweet part and then after a bit of warming, there’s some nice sweet caramel to balance just a bit.
The taste was fully bittersweet all around taking in both sides of the bitter to the sweet and making it slightly sticky in the aftertaste and yet leading to a slightly refreshing finish.
On the palate, this one sat about a medium on the body with not much of a sessionable aspect to it. The carbonation was good for the DIPA style as it was just harsh enough but still smooth enough all around.
Overall, I once put this with an open faced tuna melt with melted pepperjack on top and it was absolutely awesome. Recommend with or without food despite high ABV.

Can thanks to a trade. Pours a clear amber with a white head that lasts throughout the beer and laces slightly. Aroma has lots of sweet grains with some light grass with a bit of earthy light pine. Flavor has lots of sweet grains with some light fruit, sweet citrus and a good amount of grass.

Can thanks to WillRunForBeer. Pours clear deep amber with a large creamy cream colored head that dissipates with nice lacing. Aroma is butterscotch, caramel, pine, citrus. Flavor is quite sweet, medium bitter and somewhat buttery. Medium plus body, creamy mouthfeel. Interesting take for sure.

Pours a crystal clear deep amber color with a huge fluffy beige head that takes forever to recede. The aroma holds a fair amount of sweet malty backbone with bready and caramel being fairly evident to my nose. Garlic green onions grapefruit pith and dankness along with a hint of ethanol round out the nose. The flavor is sweet and malty but has plenty of hop and alcohol to keep it from cloying. Green onions and garlic scape with hints of alcohol countering bread and caramel. Medium to thick body with a moderate level of carbonation and a sweet resinous just shy of syrupy mouthfeel. This is a big beer and it shows. I liked it but felt it a little sweet for my tastes.

Enjoyed from can at McKay’s Public House in Bar Harbor, ME. Appearance is a slightly dark gold with a rich white head that laces to the glass, definitely bubbly. Aroma is abundantly hopped, huge citrus notes, lightly malty, smells fantastic. Taste is phenomenal, mostly citrus with a touch of pine hops, light crisp, very easy drinking, moderate carbonation, nice mouthfeel. Great brew, happy to have had this.

Tall-boy acquired in Portland. Amber and copper appearance. Huge fluffy off-white head which faded slowly and leaving behind a lot of lacing. Smells great. Awesome pineapple and grapefruit nose. Decent pine cone undertones. Very well hopped. Taste is not too bitter. The 10% alcohol is very well hidden. Loads and loads of pine and citrus that continues over and over. It’s not as great as the top IPAs but, as a 10% imperial IPA, it’s delicious and very well done!

CP&K. Very hazy deep amber beer. Tidy cream coloured head. Palate is soft but with prickly carbonation. Minerals. Creamy and even malt base. Marmalade orange hops, a little sweet. Trace of tropical fruits with mango and peach syrup. A little alcohol spice in the semi soft dry finish. Not bad but some more hops would have been good.

Draft @ Novare Res. Dirty amber color with full head, good retention in the Tulip. Nose is a tantalizing mix of fresh grapefruit, malt and tropical fruit. Taste is a winner! Juicy, wet hops. Malts give it a sweeter touch and make it balanced. Pine needles and the resin show up as it warmed. ABV is hidden quite well. Mild lingering bitterness. Highly drinkable. I would recommend. Nice.
