At home. Bottle shared 3-ways. Black with tan head. Deep roasted sweet malts, pure cocoa, vanilla, espresso/coffee, marijuana hops in the background. Over medium sweet and medium bitter. Medium body nice carbonation and sweet chocolatey finish. Like! --- Beer merged from original tick of Stout (8%) on 21 Nov 2017 at 16:55 - Score: 8. Original review text: 4.1

Bottle shared thanks to sjogro. Almost black with big dark beige head that leaves a nice ring and quite some lacing. Thick roasted notes, cocoa beans, fresh coffee, light citrus, ash, toffee, light mineral. Medium sweet, long lasting roasted bitter finish. Over medium bodied with long dry finish. Oh yeah, perfectly balanced beer. Lovely.

Bottle at home in London - picked up at the brewery. This one pours deep brown, with a rich and lasting beige cream head. The aroma gives away a lot of dark chocolate, ashy roast and burnt coffee. The flavour follows wonderfully, with a hard-edged roast character that is one of the hallmarks of Kernel’s darker output. Again, we get a lot of dark and bittersweet cocoa, rich coffee, some scorched earth, and a moderate punch of alcohol. The beer is full bodied and somewhat chewy, with a delicate level of carbonation that lends the beer a velvety texture. The finish includes further bittersweet chocolate, earth, some woody dryness, very slight hints of oily pine, burnt sugars and an enveloping alcohol warmth. Overall, it’s a classic Kernel stout: robust, richly layered and hugely drinkable.

Bottle. Noble Fine Liquor, Broadway Market, London. Very dark cola brown. Thin, sticky, lasting, tan head. Nose has leather. Wood. Vine fruit. Fudge. Some cocoa powder, and dark chocolate. Lovely. Taste is brûléed fruit, sweet. Light bitterness. Beautifully smooth, silky mouthfeel. Rich, but super drinkable. Finishes fudgy sweet, before a rising, lasting, charred wood, fruity bitterness. Oh my word, this is so easy to drink. Beautiful.

Bottle from Vino Wines. Black body with a medium tan head. Good lacing. Aroma of ash, Twiglets, charred wood and burnt toast. Flavour of bitter dark chocolate, berries and a dry finish. Medium body with a sticky mouthfeel. Very faint carbonation. Not particularly complex, but nice all the same. Falls short of The Kernel’s high standard.

(Draught at Beer Temple, Amsterdam, 17 Feb 2016) Black colour with creamy, beige head. Malty, roasted nose with coffee, dark chocolate and a touch of blueberries. Malty, roasted taste with notes of coffee, dark chocolate, roasted malt, blueberries, cacao and a generous roasty bitterness in the finish. Almost full body, creamy mouthfeel. A touch of sweetness. Rich, tasty and in excellent balance. Very nice.
