Malt Brown is a traditional concept adapted to an age of modernity. Brewed with a proportion of roasted malt and dark sugars, it has a sweet, malty palate and a bittersweet finish derived from Fuggle and Progress hops. Rich and biscuity, the lush fullness is offset by a hint of burnt sugars. It is both warming at ambient temperatures and refreshing when chilled.

Can from Rudat. Malty roasted beginning. Read roasted malts and an intense roasted bitterness. Nice smooth, grainy with lots of red roast. Bitter grainy smooth aftertaste, dry, malty with a nice deep roasted body. Very nice.

Sampled from tap at ’The Shakespeare’. Clear, very dark red to brown with a thin, beige head. Sweetish, malty and slightly fruity aroma of caramel, raisins and blueberry. Sweetish, moderately bitter, slightly malty and a bit fruity taste of caramel, blueberry and some raisins, followed by a short, moderately bitter, quite grassy, slightly roasty and a bit dry finish. Thin to medium body, slightly effervescent mouthfeel, soft carbonation. Okay, a bit one-sided though.

Bottleshare at Chez Smith. Thanks to Scopey for this can. Harvey’s can! Clear amber - brown beer, a few short lived pale tan bubbles. Palate is light, fairly dry and has reasonable carbonation. Malts feel thin but taste rich enough, tangy toffee. Ripe fruits. Mild minerals. Smooth dry finish. Guess this pasteurised so mercifully no Harvey’s egg laden yeast.

Cam shared at lks. It pours dark red brown with a small beige head. The aroma is earthy, wood, leather, brown bread, toasted nut and fruit cake. The taste is quite sweet, brown bread, malt loaf, earthy, toasty, wood, spice, leather and dull toffee with a dry finish. Light body and moderate carbonation. Not much depth. Fair.
