Bottled. Deep brown colour with a fluffy off-white head. Aroma is roasted, some berries, mild spices as well as some toffee and toasted tones. Flavour is spicy, roasted, some toasted and toffeeish tones with mild liquorice root and a wee bit of dried fruits.

Cask at The Carnival Inn (JDW), Bridgwater. Sampled Dec 2017. Poured clear dark brown with an off white head. Aroma: light roast malt, red berries, light spice. Taste: moderate sweet with lighter bitterness, light rich, fruity, liquorice hints. Medium bodied with soft carbonation

Cask handpull at The Royal Victoria Pavilion JDW Ramsgate. Clear very drak brown ruby colour lasting tan head. It's ok. A slightly lighter in body old ale. But it does have a little old sourness. Good malts. Yes distinctive and pretty good. Not much hop. But a good winter old style ale.

Cask at The Gordon Highlander. It pours clear deep brown with a thick beige head. The aroma is earthy, toasty, wood, leather, dark fruits, berry skin, vinous notes and fruit cake. The taste is dry, wood, old leather sofa, dark fruits, toasty malt, chewy malt and a touch of spice with a drying finish. Medium body and fine - moderate carbonation. Great condition. Well rounded and quaffable old ale.

Clear amber brown colour, small frothy off-white to beige head, mostly diminishing, light lacing. Aroma toasted malts, caramel, nuts, some liquorice, wee bit of dark fruits. Taste medium sweet and bitter, malty, caramel, bit fruity. Roasty sweetbitter aftertaste, some coffee grounding, very light spices; light body, watery texture, soft carbonation. Nice brown ale.

Cask at the Woodman; dark brown pour with a thin light tan head, aroma has dark fruits and some nutty action, taste has light roast, Autumn fruits, hint of coffee.

Cask at the Woodman, Birmingham. Poured a clear dark brown with a round bubbly off white head. The aroma is light roasty malt, red berry fruit, light spice. The flavour is moderate sweet with a smooth rich fruity liquorice hop bitter palate. Medium bodied with soft carbonation.
