Cask @ Eccles Cross, Manchester. Darker golden-amber in colour with a small head at the bargain price of £1.95 a pint! It’s full of tropical fruit character despite its strength which is most evident as a dour kick in its aftertaste.

Cask at the Hope Tap, Reading. Fresh on, lovely condition. Pours a clear pale peachy-amber with a light fizz and a loose off-white head. Great resinous mouth-coating texture. A huge fruit cocktail up front- melon and pineapple and orange and peach - there’s a lot of sweetness at first, but it’s followed by and balanced by a big whack of pine and a chilli kick in the throat. You can taste the alcohol a bit, admittedly, but it’s nicely offset by the hop bitterness and the smooth malt (with a little caramel) so it doesn’t feel harsh or raw. Frighteningly easy to drink thanks to the smoothness- could knock a few of these back very quickly before falling over! Unusually for a US IPA the taste is more pronounced than the flavour, and this combined with what turns out to be quite a restrained bitterness may deter hardcore hopheads. But for me, it’s got a beautiful balance, and is a fabulous beer- yet another great collab from Adnams.

Cask at the Willow Walk, 22/01/14. Clear golden amber with a moderate off white covering. Nose is bitter grapefruit, caramel maltings, pithy orange, light pine. Taste comprises sticky mango, grapefruit, pine resin, Caramac bar, candied sugars. Medium bodied, soft carbonation, sticky tropical fruit notes, semi aggressive hop bitterness and a coating of booze in the closure. Decent cask DIPA, the bitterness and sweetness are well balanced.

Cask at Willow Walk. It pours clear amber with a small white head. The nose is pine, light toast, dried mango, orange, apricot, papaya and a touch of caramel. The taste is bitter-sweet, resinous, pine, stewed orange, grapefruit, watermelon, papaya, decent alcohol hit, underlying caramel and peppery notes in the background with a dry, bitter finish. Medium+ body, soft carbonation and oily mouth-feel. Good bitterness and juicy tropical fruit. Ballsy stuff, yet I had no problem smashing back the half. Nice one

Cask at the Crown Rivers, JDW - Terminal 5, Heathrow. Pours clear gold with a bubbly, foamy white head. The nose has lots of dried citrus, some mango, general tropical fruits. Medium sweet flavor with ample pine, rioe orane, mango, papaya, toasted grass, mild alcohol. Full bodied with fine carbonation. Warming finish with very decent hoppy resins, orange, bready sugars, toasted pine, slight minerals, hints of leaves and earth, papaya, tangerine. Great balance for the ABV. Really quite a nicely made beer.

Cask at old street jdw. Aroma is big bold sticky resinous hops, pine and sweet stone fruits. Light amber golden colour with a lasting off white head. Flavour is initially sweet biscuit caramel malts melding well with the tropical fruit characters of the hops. Then we have a assertive grassy slightly rough grapefruit bitterness in the finish. Some alcohol bite presents at the end. Full body with low carbonation. Tasty, maybe not the best nick. Really great to see adnams and Jdw do this sort of thing.

Cask at Willow Walk (W’Spoons), Victoria, London. A golden/amber coloured pour with a thin white head on top. Hoppy, tropical fruit aroma. Tastes similar, hoppy, tropical fruit, some caramel, quite sweet and also rather bitter. Not bad but I was expecting to be blown away and I wasn’t.

Crosse Keys Spoons. Cask. Almost clear gold beer, small cream coloured head. Fruity hops on the snout. Smooth palate, slightly soft. Modest superfine carbonation. Soft sweet malt, a little cream. Resinous hops, sweet pine, spicy pine and then sweetish tropical fruits, papaya and mango led. Whisper of esters. Hop spice develops in to a fairly bitter finish. Bitter linger that also has an aniseed streak. My lips are sticky after finishing 2 half pints at adjacent Spoons. This is very nice but I could not session it like recent dipa releases from Siren and Harbour. Unlike those bad boys, I was fully aware tbat this was an 8.5% dipa.

Cask at JDW The Square Peg; burnished amber pour with a foamy white head, orange and pineapple aroma, taste has marmalade caramel, quite sticky sweet mouthfeel, a hint of spice, ABV is definitely, quite difficult to drink and a moderate bitter finish.

Cask at the Old Manor (JDW), Bracknell. Bright gold with a ring of white head; aroma of resinous hops; syrupy body, the strong, woody, resinous hops completely dominate the taste; the finish is as long as expected and on the sour side, with a lengthy dry aftertaste. I can’t see this catching on with the average JDW punter.
