330ml bottle bought at Sourced Market, St Pancras and shared with Stefan. Opaque, muddy brown body. Off-white head blanketing the glass. Rich aroma of grapefruits added by grainy malts. Fresh taste of tropical fruits and grapefruits supported by dark spices to a bitter ending. Easy to drink. Likable, but not pretty to look at (hotel room kitchen in Leeds, 29.06.2013).

Aroma: Sweet candy aroma. Very pungent hoppy aroma as soon as the beer is poured from the bottle. Watermelon flavoured sweets, grapefruit and toffee.

Appearance: Hazy amber body with a thin white head. Light carbonation. Great lacing.

Taste: Like the aroma, the main flavour is sweet candy - the sort of hard candy you get on bright red toffee apples. The hop bitterness balances it out nicely though with flavours of pine resin, citrus and an unusual hint of garlic.

Palate: Medium body with a foamy mouthfeel. Soft carbonation.

Overall: Quite sweet and malty for an IPA but still has the hop bitterness to back it up. Well balanced.

Bottle at home in London - picked up at the brewery. Pours mostly clear amber-gold with a frothy, off-white head. Nose holds some bready and perhaps lightly toasted pale malts, ripe citrus, maybe some hints of garlic and line. Light to medium sweet flavor with moderate ripe citrus bitterness, orange and tangerine, some drying bread, slightly astringent dried hay. Light to medium bodied with fine carbonation. Modest piney resins to finish, citrus rind, grass, hay, dry bready pale malts. Decent but I’ve had much better from Partizan.

Bottle bought at Real ale shop, Twickenham. A hazy amber/orange coloured pour with a thin white head on top. Hoppy, citrus aroma. Tastes hoppy, citrus, grapefruit, pine. Sight bitterness to this IPA but still very good.

Bottle from brewery drunk at home, far too late on a Friday evening given the fact that I have to get up in the morning and start work behind the bar at a beer festival on the Saturday. Rating 11,000. How did that happen? I mean when I first started Duff was the highest UK rater on 3,600, now I’m on 11k? And that first 1000 seemed so difficult. And it’s fitting I rate one of the new London breweries using American hops for my 11k rating. I love Kernel and Partizan and some of the other new London breweries that are part of the renaissance in micro brewing in the UK and in London in particular as it was not as well served for beers as a city of its renown and size should have been. And Andy is a lovely chap at Partizan. Darkish beer with a lasting beige head. Toffee and citrus hop aroma. Certainly a deeper, fuller more malty IPA than the brewery up the road. I kinda like the toffee sweetness and then the citrus and bitterness on the back end. An interesting take on a modern IPA. I do like the malts in this I must say, but I also like the big aggressive finishing hop. A well balanced beer. Like I keep saying, beer has to have balance and this one does. Jeez I’m agreeing with Ken again. Is there no hope for me? This one goes to everyone I’ve shared a beer with over the past 8 years on Ratebeer, but in particular to the much missed Haddonsman. Cheers Simon.

Bottle at home, from Utobeer, 14/06/13. Hazed dark orange amber with a good size slightly off white head. Nose is fresh hops, jammy fruit, citrus, bitter orange, light grapefruit, ripe melon. Taste comprises hops, quite a lot of mineral notes, orange pith, bitter grapefruit. pine needles. Medium bodied, fine carbonation, hop bitterness and mineral bite in the finish. Solid IPA.

Bottle at Partizan. It pours clear amber with a small white head. The nose is pine, barnyard, resin, fresh mint, herbal grass and faint citrus peel. It tastes pine, earth, bitter grapefruit, pithy citrus, resin, spice and mint leaves with a dry, bitter finish. Medium body and soft carbonation. Smells better than it tastes. Not quite what I was expecting, but decent nonetheless.

7th July 2013
Surprisingly dark amber beer with a tidy pale cream coloured head. Palate is softish with mild carbonation. A well balanced IPA with a good malt backbone, carrying a trace of dark toffee. Hops are orange citric, Columbus earth, with lesser marmalade, lemon and pine. Semi dry finish. All comes together very well, one of those beers that vanishes before you know it.
