Keg at Beer Emporium, Bristol. Pours hazed amber with a beige cap. Aroma: brown bread, rye, caramel, fruit cake, honey, dried fruits. Taste: light sweet & moderate bitter, dry, roast, rye, earth, cocoa, caramel, brown bread, dried fruits, light spice. Light to medium body with moderate carbonation.

Bottle from The Bottle Shop and drunk at home. Hazy dark red brown beer with lasting thin beige head. Spicy fruity aroma. Not sure it has much Belgian character. Not huge on the esters, but I guess the malts ending up tasting a bit like a dark Belgian beer. Plenty of spice from the rye and then quite a lot of hop on the finish. Some bitterness. I like the spicy rye and the fruit and the malt and the dryness and the bitterness. Quite interesting and good for a winter’s day.

Bottle shared at Kernel. It pours hazy brown with a thick beige head. The nose is rich, brown bread, mild spice, caramel, fruit cake, honey, raisin and sultana. The taste is bitter, roasty, earth, cocoa, caramel, brown bread, spice, drying, raisin, leather , light spice and dirt with a dry finish. Light-medium body and moderate carbonation. Good flavour for abv. Tasty.

Bottle shared at the Kernel - thanks to Paul. Pours unclear, dirty amber-gold with a frothy off-white head. The nose has some dry rye grains, brown bread, aged berries. Light sweet flavor with more dried grains, some minerals, toasted bread, more old berries. Light bodied with fine to average carbonation. Moderate sweetness on the finish, toast, leaves, dry toffee, pine and rye spice. Not bad.

Hazy deep amber beer, tidy pale cream colour head. Palate is light and dry with a mild minerally crispness. Light malts, a little unsweet caramel and very thin and dry malt cream. Ripe orange. Whisper of spice. Light floralnes before a light dry finish. Decent but doesn’t feel very Belgian!

Bottle from Corks of North Street, Bristol. Hazy copper, with a slight, white, head. Spicy malts, some berry fruits and orange peel aroma. A bit thin in the mouth, but plentiful flavours of sweetish citrus fruit and crisp rye malts, leading to a dryish, lingering, finish. Enjoyable.
