Cask pint in a Shrewsbury Wetherspoons on 6th Nov 2014. Poured a bright, clear deep amber/copper with a ruby hue, with a thick off-white head. Aroma of sweet malty molasses with caramel to the fore. The Rye comes into play in the taste, dry and grainy in nature with hints of fruitiness from the hop content. Not really my thing, but it was not a bad brew, just not for me: scored objectively.

Cask at the Queen Hotel (JDW), Aldershot. Reddish copper with a thin cream head; strawberry fruit aroma; soft in the mouth with more berry fruits - raspberry and blackberry, and some caramel; and a dry, bitter, but disappointingly thin finish - otherwise a pleasant bitter.

Cask @ the Bankers Draft (JDW), Bedford. Amber/brown, clear with very little head but quite a big of lacing. Aroma has som rose petal/strawberry notes that rise above the basic cereal malt aroma. Fruity bittersweet taste with a bitter/sour finish. Traces of red wine, cola, and cardboard. Interesting and certainly good enough but far from exciting.

Cask at the Willow Walk, JDW - London. Pours clear, deep russet with a frothy, off-white head. Pleasant aroma with notes of toasted bread, dried berries, nuts and earth. Light-medium sweet flavor with subtle crunchy leaf bitterness, some toasted grains, ripe and dried fruit, berries, peanut shells. Medium bodied with fine carbonation; good condition. Nicely balanced on the finish with further toasted bread and grains, soft nuttiness, some dried fruit sugars, old leaves and earth giving some balancing bitterness. Good, rounded bitter.

Earl Of Essex. Cask. Almost clear amber beer, residual pale tan head. Palate is light and dry and reasonably crispy from decent fine carbonation. Light malts. Whisper of lactose like sweetness. Mild red berry fruits seamlessly blend with orangey hops and mild floralness, Smooth and semi dry finish. Tasty and drinkable if a tad dry, good bitter!

Cask handpull at Knights Templar Spoons. Clear brown colour lasting beige head. It’s a decent fruity malty red beer. Fairly tasty malts are there but not overly heavy. Some peppery hop on the finish. It’s fine. Better than average but lacks a little bit of racing excitement.
