Keg tap at the Old Bicycle Shop. Dark black with what would be a purplish hue, if indeed hues existed in this darkness. Chocolate milk with a hint of star anise in the scent. Taste has a sweet lactic note competing with blackberry sour. Some roast malt in the long sourish finish. I like Wild Weather’s beers but I found this to be really messy. So A- for ingenuity and C for cohesion.

Cask @ Baum, Rochdale. Dark and smooth tasting, but understated in its stout characteristics.

On keg at the Ale House, Chelmsford. Pours almost black with virtually no head. Aroma of milky chocolate, and roasted malt. Sweet, very light roasted bitterness. Full bodied with a slick texture. Good milk chocolate sweet stout, though sweetness becomes a little overpowering (drinking a full pint) towards the end.

(Cask at Cock Tavern, Hackney, London, 21 April 2016) Black colour with brief, off-white head. Malty, roasted nose with black coffee, chocolate and black rye bread. Malty, roasted taste with notes of liquorice, chocolate, coffee, caramel and a gentle roasty bitterness. Medium body, with a certain sweetness. Tasty and balanced, but on the sweet side. Quite nice.

Cask at Westow House. It pours black with a decent beige head. The nose is is sweet, creamy, milk chocolate, fudge and light toast. The taste is smooth, bitter-sweet, milk chocolate, soft roast, toasty, dark fruits and icing sugar with a smooth finish. Medium body and fine carbonation. Does what it says on the tin/pump clip. Smooth and drinkable, if a touch sweet.
