Handpump at the Harp in London. Orange clear/bright pour, off-white foam. Nose: grassy/green harvest, really nice. Mouth: tea hoppy feel, grass in a weak malty body. Easy and quite tasty. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle from Palmer’s. It pours clear amber with a small white head. The nose is biscuit, cereal, bread, grainy action, caramel and dull sweetness. The taste is crisp, grainy, malty, cereal, slightly watery, biscuit, bread and porridge with a short, dry finish. Light - medium body and fine carbonation. A pretty basic malt - driven golde. Not gr8.

The Royal Standard, Lyme Regis. Cask. Clear gold - amber beer, small pale cream colour head. Palate is light and smooth and has decent fine carbonation. Smooth malts, slightly tangy. Tangy dried fruits. Traces of tangy lemon and orange. Well buried esters. Smooth finish. Somewhere between a bitter and a golden, more at the bitter end of the scale.

(Cask at Harp, Covent Garden, London, 28 Nov 2014) Golden amber colour with foamy, off-white head. Fruity, malty nose with notes of apricots, citrus and dusty hops. Malty, fruity taste with citrus, apricots, caramel, and a gentle bitterness in the finish. Medium body, with a certain sweetness. Tasty and well balanced. Quite nice.

Cask @ Prince of Wales, Southampton. Mid-gold with white megahead. Aroma of yeast, buttermilk, bananas. Taste is sweet with an acrid kick. Too much Gennessee’s about it, and not enough good English cask ale. Palmers are capable of much better than this.
