Bottle at the Cotteridge Convention thanks to Steve. It pours darkest brown with a small beige head. The nose is sweet, juicy, pine, candied citrus peel, parma violets and Eccles cake. The taste is crisp, bitter-roast, toasty, treacle, Eccles cake, pine, varnish, charred wood, good hit of bitterness and light alcohol with a dry, roasty finish. Medium body and moderate carbonation. Punchy and pretty tasty. Solid black IPA.

24th Jan 2015: shared bottle at the Cotteridge Wine meet. How big was Steve’s bag? He must have brought half of Ireland’s beer selection with him on the flight! Cheers mate, for yet another bottle from the Emerald Isle. Surprise, surprise, this Black IPA is in fact Black, the head a tanned beige affair. Loads going on in the aroma and flavour stakes: Piney, citrusy and dark fruity with an exotic spicy feel as an afterthought in the finish. Nice.

Bottle split at the Cotteridge Convention, big thanks to Steve BIK for another Irish CDA, 24/01/14. Extremely dark mahogany brown with a decent beige covering. Nose is pine needle, dark berry fruits, spice, bitter fruit, earthy. Taste comprises toffee, earthy hop notes, light pine, tangy berry fruits. Medium bodied, fine carbonation, semi drying close. Drinkable CDA that ticks the style boxes but lower down the order.

BB 30 08 12, 330ml Dark black in the glass, intense floral in the nose. The beer starts intense, floral, a bit viscous. Nice hints of floralness and fresh hops over a body that is more a stout than anything else. Rich and creamy, thick till the end. Floral and slightly roasted ending, smooth bittered.
I won’t call it a Black IPA - it is more a nice dry-hopped Imperial Stout. --> 11/10/10/10

Absolutely phenomenal BIPA. Pours a stout black with a nice tan head that last for a little while and leaving good lacing on the pint glass. Aroma of coffee beans, vanilla, grapefruit, citrus, some burnt toast. The striking part of this beer is the wonderful balance between that Porter-like roasted character and the American style hop notes. Delicious, much much better than the rating would suggest.
