Bottle split at Jack The Sipper leaves for the FBI again tasting, thanks to Mr Froge, 14/07/15. Very lightly hazed amber/chestnut brown with a big old beige cap. Nose is big peated tones, smoke, malt, band aid, light spice. Taste comprises peated malts, fruit loaf, toffee, peppery notes. Medium bodied, fine carbonation, semi drying close with a big peated linger. Ok for a peated #.

Farewell Jack bottleshare at Craft Clerkenwell. Thanks to Froggus. Hazy amber beer, small pale cream colour head. Palate is airy and dry, good fine carbonation. Big band aids on the snout. Airy dry malts, mildly sweet. Big peaty Ardberg. Fortunately avoids that acrid burn some Ardberg BA beers have. Little spice. Fairly dry finish. Almost inevitably one dimensional. But it is at least approachable.

Bottle thanks to The Foigus. It pours clear deep mahogany brown with a small tan head. The nose is rich, unctuous, smoked meat, TCP, medicinal, toasted vanilla, burnt marshmallow, monkey nuts and wood. The taste is bitter, earthy, woody, medicinal, dirt, alcohol warmth, charred wood, mild astringency, light acidity, whisky and smoke with a dry, earthy finish. Medium+ body and decent carbonation. Nice aroma, but perhaps doesn’t quite have the body to carry the Ardbeg all the way.

Bottle. Beer Central, Sheffield. Hazy amber. Fluffy, lasting, white head. Peaty, medicinal, light smoke. And not much beyond that. A bit bready, maybe. Some grassy hop. Taste is light dry, and pretty bitter. Some smoky sweetness wriggling around between the two. Smooth palate. Finishes long, slightly tart bitter. Tasty bugger, but not one I’d have again. Another Weird Beard love it or hate it job.

Keg at the Bottle Shop Bermondsey - London. Pours deep brown with a foamy, off-white head. Big peat character, lots of smoke, sweet brown bread, some leafy hop bitterness. Full bodied with fine to average carbonation. Finishes sweet, with light alcohol kick, lots more peat. Lingering smokiness. Not bad overall.
