Jet Black IPA with a razor's edge bitterness. Sacks full of USA Brava & Willamette Hops give a fruity, floral aroma. Dry hopped with Simcoe hops for a grapefruit, citrus encore!

Nearly opaque dark brown colour, good frothy beige head, half-way lasting, heavy lacing. Aroma toasted malts, coffee, light treacle, liquorice. Taste medium sweet and bitter, roasty, malty, coffee, light chocolate. Malty sweetbitter aftertaste, earthy notes, light chocolate. Medium body, watery texture, soft carbonation, bit thin but otherwise a decent BIPA.

Almost opaque dark brown beer, tidy pale tan head. Palate is light, dry and has decent fine carbonation. Thin and tangy dark malts. Earthy coffee. Tangy floral bitterness. Earthy tangy finish. Tangy bitter linger. Quite awkward overall.

(Cask at Cask Pub & Kitchen, Pimlico, London, 30 Nov 2014) Dark brown colour with hints of ruby. Foamy beige head. Malty, roasted nose with notes of coffee, chocolate, a touch of rye and resiny hops. Malty, roasted, hoppy taste with dark rye bread, coffee, orange peel, pine needles and a generous piney bitterness in the finish. Medium body, with a touch of sweetness. Well made and tasty black IPA, with lots of hops and a solid roasty malt backbone. Very nice.

Cask. The Hop, York. Clear, very dark, reddy brown. Dense, creamy, lasting, sticky, off white head. Bit of a looker. Earthy, dark, roast malt. Piny hop. Grapefruit pith. Taste is full bitter. A little ashy dryness. Some tartness. Chewy palate. Finishes long bitter. Tasty, if a little rough.

Cask at CASK. It pours near black with a small dirty beige head. The nose is harsh roast, toast, earth and light burnt notes. The taste is highly bitter, burnt toast, charred wood, tar, varnish, some astringency and pepper. Light-medium body and fine carbonation. Body is surprisingly light for the style. A bit harsh and unrefined...

Cask at the CP&K, Pimlicoco, 26/11/14. Extremely dark mahogany brown with a decent khaki covering that retains well. Nose is light pine, toffee, charr, dusty hops, nectarines. Taste comprises earthy hops, liqourice, peach, roasted notes, hint of pine needle, dark orange marmalade rinds (Frank Coopers - natch!). Medium bodied, soft carbonation, light bitterings in the close. Easy drinking CDA, not much depth but in good condition.

Cask at CPK - London. Pours clear, rich brown with a foamy, light tan head. The aroma holds mellow roast, lightly charred toast and pine. Light-medium sweet flavor with a hit of acorched earth bitterness, slight cocoa, roast, hints of minerals, burnt grass. Medium bodied with fine carbonation. Finishes with more burnt pine, burnt toast, boring cocoa, lingering grassy and earthy bitterness. Just OK.
