Flavour is composed of semi sweet, rounded malts, bitter liquorice, burnt cakey rind,. Mellow citrus pine hop in the finish. Palate is medium sweet, somewhat chewy, lowish carbonation. Lingering bitter character.

Gravity cask at the 2017 Cambridge Beer Festival. Mid-brown with a touch of red, very translucent. Inconsistent film of off-white head. Smell of buttered toast, walnuts, toffee, brandy. Taste has a creamy malty sweetness to the fore, but there is a dogged resinous hoppy back-of-the-tongue bitterness that offers not so much balance as competition. Thin body. Toffee, Angustora bitters and red currant in the aftertaste. Not Oakham’s best, perhaps, but I certainly wouldn’t turn down another half!

Cask, handpump, The Crown Inn, Stockport, Greater Manchester in the company of Lynn and Barry, Saturday 18th February 2017 Unusual aroma there is a touch of soap mingled in is also some Indian spice, this is a strange beer especially for Oakham. Tangy, fruity beer, dark amber, good clarity. A touch strange this beer. A6 A4 T6 P4 Ov12 3.2
