The Thorn Pear is one of the oldest and most distinguished of all the perry pear varieties.
As long ago as the 17th century it was recorded for its vintage qualities. Sadly, like many varieties of quality, it is now extremely hard to find, and it is mostly found on the borders of Herefordshire and Gloucestershire.
An early ripening pear, it is harvested in early September. The perry produced from this single variety, has a very crisp, dry flavour and is often compared to white wine.

750ml bottle from Orchard Explorers. Pale yellow gold colour, afew short-lived bubbles on top and aroma of perry pear, light funk. Taste is slightly sweetish, pear, some tartness, fleshy, lemony, with a little funk & biscuit hints, and citric acidity. Light to medium bodied, low carbonation, dry finish. Quite drinkable.

Bottle at home in Hackney - picked up at Kris Wines about five years ago. Pours clear gold. Nice aroma, some musty pear, apple skin, lemon. Light-medium sweet flavour with refreshing acidity, a little warmth, earth. Medium bodied and broadly soft. Warming finish, tart, some lemon, more musty pear, a little sugar. Great stuff.

Bottle at LKS. It pours clear blush - gold with no head. The aroma is sweet, ripe pear, melon, red fruits, honey, tangy lemon and pear skin. The taste is dry, tart, tannin, lemon peel, tart pear, gooseberry, white grape, touch of acidity, sherbet and sour candy with a firmly dry finish. Medium body, flat and slightly oily in the mouth. Nice tart vibes.

Bottle 75 cl. Courtesy of madmitch76. Pours a pale yellow with a small white head. Sophisticated, tart nose with a little funk. Medium body, almost flat, vanilla and dry apple notes with a slight acetone touch. Very nice though. 250113
