THE stout tasting Pt1. Another bow and doff of the hat to Jack for sourcing and sharing this beast. Bottle 309/534. Opaque black beer with a big tan head. Soft palate - airy. Mild fine carbonation. Big soft sweet dark malts. Tangy alcohol spice and cognac. Finishes smooth and tangy. Big sticky sweet treat!

huge thanx to bobochamps for sharing ! the only dark lord i concidered having a chance to live up to its name, as i like the cognac beer very much ( hel en verdoemenis 666 is my favourite beer, by example) . i was not dissapointed ! bottle 449/532 almost no foam, dark brown beer. smell is very cognac-based. taste is sweet ( dark lord ... ) buttery, very low carbo. the best dark lord ( variant) i’ve had so far, yet it stays dark lord.. why does it have to be sooo sweet, so 1-taste based?

Bottle #309/ 534, Vintage 2012 at The Stout Tasting, London - huge thanks to Jack for making the effort to snag this beer. Pours black-brown with a creamy, brown head. Dark malt nose, burnt wood, earth. Big sweet flavor, some alcohol notes, rich and lightly bitter cocoa, molasses, sugary chocolate, brown sugar. Full bodied with fine carbonation. Warm, sticky sweet finish with more molasses and other dark sugars, ripe and dark fruits, robust cocoa. A hugely sweet and ballsy beer, but it’s delicious.

18/I/13 - 75cl bottle @ De Hopduvel - BB: n/a - #449/532 (2013-26) Thanks to Bobochamp for sharing the bottle!

Clear dark red brown beer, no head. Aroma: quite some chocolate, vanilla, lots of caramel, alcohol, sugary, hint of wood, bit earthy. MF: soft yet very fine prickling carbon (did they add CO2?), full body. Taste: caramel, citrus, vanilla, very sugary, bit spicy, chillies (possibly the alcohol I taste?), chocolate. Aftertaste: more caramel, vanilla, boozy, dark chocolate, alcohol warming the throat, bitter touch, leather and tobacco, cocoa powder, sugary but not as bad as in the main taste. Once again: chillies? Still the alcohol possibly?

Bottle (#309 of 534, 2012 vintage) thanks to jackl, consumed at THE stouts tasting - part 1. It pours very dark brown with a small dark tan head. The nose is chocolate, caramel, sticky chocolate cake, light spice, vanilla, lactose, brown sugar and some cognac. The taste is rich-roasted malt, chocolate gateaux, caramel, vanilla, alcohol warmth, toast, some dark fruit, ginger cake, wood and cognac with a smooth, sweet finish. Full body, fine carbonation and sticky mouth-feel. Too sweet. I prefer the bourbon version. Really glad to have the chance to try this though.

Bomber received in trade. Thank you Pandableh! Pours oily viscous black with a small dark chocolate head that quickly dissipates without leaving any trace on the glass. Smell is sweet, salty and malty with roasted malts, molasses, sweet liquorice candy, kecap manis, cognac, sweet dark bread, quality dark chocolate, sweetened coffee, brandy, coconut and hints of orange zest. Taste is very sweet and tiny bitter with roasted malts, kecap manis, sweetened coffee, quality dark chocolate, cognac, coconut, charred wood, sweet liquorice candy, raisins, red apples, vanilla fudge, cognac and coconut. Mouthfeel is very viscous, round, smooth, silky, boozy and full bodied. Finish is sweet and tiny bitter with sweet dark bread, molasses, vanilla fudge, brandy, sweetened coffee, bitter chocolate, charred wood and raisins. Better than the original but this is still way too sticky sweet for me to appreciate. Mouthfeel is great though.

Good one to sneak up front for at GTMW. Opaque black body, beige-brown head. Huge fusel sugar sweet boozy aroma. Tastes like malt extract and booze combined. Tolerable, but all around brutal too. A good splitter for ten people. Cognac grape alcohol notes are dominate. Blows my mind that people actively seek this beer out. Tastes like cheap Port wine.

Bottle shared at RBSG Grand Tasting, 2012. Big syrupy caramel cognac aroma. Black with lace—not even lace, flat. Hugely sweet, cognac, a bit of tanginess, chocolate, coffee. Way over the top sweet but tasty.
