Bottled (2nd CS/ES Beer Gathering, thanks SV!). Dark ambery brown colour with a mediumsized yellowish beige head that leaves some lace. Aroma is malty, yeasty, a bit spicy and also has some rather strong roasted and ashy notes. Flavour is strong roasted malts, some caramel, mild spices, yeast and earthy notes. As it warms up the ashyness shows a bit more as well.

Draught at the brewpub. Dark-red to brown body. Nice. Off white head. Nice balanced sweet coffee roasty nose. Nice! Light acidic coffee malty nose. Not bad, drinkable, reminiscent of a dry stout. Good enough.

Aroma is roasted barley, and that’s it. Look is a boring dark amber. Flavour is burnt barley, overroasted, trying to be coffee. Wet finish. It’s not so great.

From tap at the brewpub. Pours dark brown with a small tan head. Aroma is roasted malty. Caramelish, light liqourice and breadish malt flavoured. Smooth fruity note to this. Light sweetness. Lingering malty and liqourice spiced finish.

Draught at the brewpub in Lille
Deep dark (mahoney), clear body. Lightly brown, creamy head with an excellent lace. Aroma of smoke, chocolate, coffee, strongly roasted malts, dark fruit: quite complex and well balanced. Moderately bitter, lightly sweet flavour: nice, but not overwhelming. Some annoying stickiness in the flavour.

A dark mahogany brown ale with a thin moka head. A sweet malt aroma with light nuttiness. In mouth, a nice sweet malt with nutty notes, herbal notes, a bit of fruity esters. Medium bodied. A good brown ale. On tap at 3B St-Denis, Sept. 13 2008.

Bottle: Poured a dark brown with a fluffy white head. The aroma was of fruit and a bit roasted malt, it also had some pine tree hints to it. The taste was more of that dark roasted malt with a bitter bite at the end.

On tap, Les 3 Brasseurs Cafe, Lille, France, 29-06-07 Poured dark brown with a red hue, soft tasting uncomplicated stout lacking the rich roasted flavours of many others of this type, but still ok in it’s own right.
