Our Big Eye IPA is a big hoppy brew, thanks to the abundance of American Columbus and Centennial varieties we use to flavor and dry hop. While the English originally added extra hops to preserve their beers for sea travel, we do it for the love of all that bold, intense flavor that makes India Pale Ale one of our favorite styles.

Clear gold. Ample head of foam.

Piney nose with some cracker like nose. Hints of lemon.

Taste matches the smell. Delightful and very approachable IPA.

On draught at Old Chicago.

Clear amber beer with a thin white head and a bitter, hoppy, citrus aroma. Flavour is a good blend of fruity citrus and that same bitterness. Almost too easy to guzzle.

Amber-copper colored, clear, medium off white head, good lacing and decent lasting. Aroma is of caramel malt, very fruity, floral and citrusy. Taste is medium sweet caramel malt, floral, moderate fruity, some biscuit, citrus, medium+ bitterness, dry finish, lasting aftertaste. Medium bodied, soft+ carbonation, oily. Some hardcandy in taste and aroma. (bottle, Bierhalle Deconinck, Vichte)

Another popular West Coast IPA I hadn’t rated yet... Thick and frothy, irregular, egg-white head leaving dispersed lacing on the edges, colour is lightly hazy, amberish orange blonde. Rich, ’dank’ and appetizing aroma of all good things you’d expect from an American style IPA: blood orange, lemon blossom, mojito-like lime, quite a lot of cedar wood and toasted sweet onion, hemp, galanga, mango, sweet biscuit and almond bread underneath. Crisp onset of sweet blood orange flesh, mango and ripe pineapple perfectly kept in balance by basic redcurrant sourishness and a clearly, even somewhat tiresome salty edge on the sides of the tongue, an effect not uncommon in this type of beers. Carbo is soft, body is smooth, light and supple; brief biscuity malt sweetishness shines but the initial saltiness expectedly turns into a big wave of resinous, piney, citrusy, spicy hop bitterness in the end, both deeply tonic water-like bittering and very aromatic retronasally, drying the end to the bone - I get almost no malt sweetness anymore at the back. The saltiness did bother me a bit, especially since it is linked to the hops and therefore carries on till after the finish, but other than that, this is exemplary for its style, though I doubt it to be better than their much more famous Sculpin. I do, however, like this brewery’s beers a lot in general, as well as the maritime theme (in this case the bigeye tuna), but I heard that they were recently taken over by a large drinks company for a billion dollars... I do hope this turn towards the mass industry will not impair the quality of their beers - definitely something to watch with suspicion.

Flaska@Sorbon Brommaplan. Gyllengyl vätska. Mycket fruktig. Ananas, mango och grape. Fruktig och god smak med en ordentlig maltkropp. Men ändå bra balanserad. Mer östkust än västkust.

(355ml bottle @ VilleValla Pub, Linköping, Dec 15 2015) Poured a clear darkish orange colour with a large clingy white head and lace. Aroma is heavily bitter hops, lots of pine needle and resin/sap, orange peels, caramel, a bit of grain or even fresh cut wood. Palate is a mix of a sweet caramel core and a fairly bitter hop profile lead by woody resinous pine. Caramel helps bring out a bit of the orange and light grapefruit profile but the hop mix here is definitely pine heavy. Finish is fairly dry, lightly toasted sort of graininess, and that pine resin bitterness is medium-high with a touch of citrus. Mouthfeel is fairly full and oily for style with average carb. Not really as bright and fruity as I like my IPAs, some may find this right up their alley but I much prefer Sculpin.
