German malt, German hops, Canadian water. This pale lager from the industrial city of Dortmund is a simple beer of balance: spice and citrus atop a humble foundation of malt, no ingredient shouting too loud and all in service of clarity. A full mouthfeel softens the moderate hoppiness, and accentuates the delicate malt profile. A long and cold maturation creates a crisp and refreshing beer that finishes clean. End your day like a Dortmunder: sweat on your brow and a beer in your hand.

On tap at craft in Toronto. Dark copper pour, with a lrage fluffy white head. Aroma is soft grains, sweet grains, light, bright grasses with hints of tea. Mouth feel is perfect, carb is spot on. Finish is light to medium bitter, with a spectacular grainy, cereals finish with lots of grassy noble hops. Wow. Best lager I've had in a long while.

Clear copper with a foamy white head. Snappy aroma of herbal hops followed by some toasted, doughy bread. Medium body with prickly carbonation. Flavor is similar. A balanced hop and malt profile starting with zesty hops, moving to sweet toasted malt and finishing lightly sweet and spicy. A nice beer with plenty of balanced character.

355ml can. Pours a slightly hazy pale amber with a medium, foamy, long lasting, white head that laces. Mild aroma of bready pale malt, caramel, apple, grass, herbal and floral hops. Sweet flavour of toasted caramel malt, apple skin, lemon, honey, grass, tea and spicy hops in a crisp, dry, mild bitter finish. Light body with a watery texture and average carbonation. Clean, refreshing and easy to drink, but I found this to be a little over-hyped.

Can: Poured a clear dark golden color Helles with a rather large white foamy head with good retention and some lacing. Aroma of clean cereal notes with light herbal notes is quite enticing. Taste is dominated by nice clean cereal notes with some faint residual sugar notes and light herbal hops notes for a semi-dry finish. Body is just about right for style with good carbonation. Super easy drinking with just the right mix of cereal notes. Great example of the style.

On tap at Godspeed, pours a hazy golden with a small white head. Aroma brings out crisp cereal malt and straw. Flavour is very dry and grainy, with cereal malts, straw and toasted grains. Bright and grainy. Pleasant enough. I don't understand the such-high ratings for this.

Got in a BIF from Coronaeus. 12 ounce can into lager glass, canned on 2/4/2019. Pours slightly hazy medium golden/amber color with a 1 finger fairly dense and rocky off white head with great retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Nice spotty soapy lacing clings on the glass, with a fair amount of streaming carbonation. Aromas of big cracker, white bread dough, toasted biscuit, light honey/nuttiness, wood, peppercorn, and herbal/floral/grassy earthiness. Damn nice aromas with great balance of pale malts and earthy hop notes; with great strength. Taste of big cracker, white bread dough, toasted biscuit, light honey/nuttiness, wood, peppercorn, and herbal/floral/grassy earthiness. Light-moderate pine, herbal, floral, woody, grassy, peppery bitterness on the finish. Lingering notes of cracker, white bread dough, toasted biscuit, light honey/nuttiness, wood, peppercorn, and herbal/floral/grassy earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Great robustness and balance of pale malts and earthy hop flavors; with a great malt/bitterness balance, and no lingering hop astringency after the finish. Moderately crisp/clean finishing. Perfectly clean on lager flavors, with no fruity/yeasty notes present. Moderate increasing dryness from lingering bitterness and carbonation. Medium-plus carbonation and light-medium body; with a very smooth, moderately bready/grainy/sticky, and fairly resinous balanced mouthfeel that is great. Zero warming alcohol as expected of 4.8%. Overall this is an excellent Dortmunder lager. All around great robustness and balance of pale malts and earthy hop flavors; very smooth, crisp, clean, and refreshing to drink with the moderately bitter/drying finish; not overly aggressive. Very flavorful and not watery for the ABV. Great clean Pils/Munich malt showcase, with perfect noble hop presence/balance. No residual sweetness with crisp dryness. A very enjoyable offering, and well made style example. Just a bit more bitter/drying than expected.
