This special edition of Free Rise, one of our signature farmhouse ales, highlights locally sourced Danko Rye from Valley Malt and Citra in the dry hop. A floral, citrus hop profile is balanced with subtle, crisp malt character and a delicate black pepper spice. Light in body, with a clean, bone-dry finish, Citra Dry Hopped Free Rise is a welcomed addition to our family of farmhouse ales.

Poured from a 750 ml bottle. Aroma has a meidum light grain and white bread malt note to it. Moderately strong, fruity esters with overripe stone fruit, some tropical fruit and banana. Some lighter floral esters. Medium light citra note with some bright citrus and more tropical fruit. Very light phenolic note. Pours a hazy, bright golden color with a large, thick, pillowy, white head that slowly recedes to the edges. Medium high lacing and faint legs. Flavor has a medium sweetness with a light grain, candi sugar and white bread note. Medium bitterness with light, herbal, phenolics. Moderate esters with overripe stone fruit and some light banana. Some tropical fruit notes and citrus with a touch of a grassy hop character. Mouthfeel is medium bodied with medium carbonation. Low astringency and low, but present alcohol warmth. Overall, a decent saison but for some reason I was expecting more from a dry hopped saison made by Trillium. The base saison is rather traditional (Dupont-like) which is fine, but the dry hopping doesn’t come through the esters very well.

750 ml purchased at the brewery. (Fort Point location) mostly hazy gold in color with weak head retention. Aroma is mild amounts of Citra hops with a light yeast character. But more hops and citrus, yeast is mild.
Base of this beer is grain with the yeast being over-ridden but the hops profile. The Citra is very notable in the flavor and real is the main component throughout. Mouthfeel is alright Pilsner malt lightens it up. This is a large improvement over the base Free Rise. This has more drinkability for my palate then the base.

32oz growler filled 1/15/16 and drunk 1/16/16.
Lightly hazy deep blonde body is topped by a large white head that recedes slowly to cover.
It’s funny, the nose actually smells a bit "funky" but I’m very sure that’s all due to the cattiness of the citra and no actual depth of yeast character. Because regular free rise, while enjoyable, was nowhere near saison-like. Anyways, tons of lemon and biscuit, with some light pepper and tons of tangerine, orange rind and a hint of tropical fruit character. No alcohol in the nose, nor flaw (discounting the cattiness of the citra).
In the mouth, it’s assertively citric, with plentiful, but not overdone bitterness and lots of chewy rye-like character. Indeed well-attenuated, but there’s some alcohol on the finish that, in concert with the aggressive citrus character, takes away from the overall picture. The texture and carbonation are quite on-point, as they almost always are from Trillium. The good attenuation is a definite plus, as well, but as with their other "saison" offerings, it’s still just not what I think of or look for in a saison.

Pours hazy yellow into a snifter. Bright white head with little retention recedes leaving spot lacing. Spicy yeast and tropical fruit aromas. Soft sour fruit and peppery yeast front to back and into the dry, slightly hot, lasting finish.
