AB:21 is a liquorice and blackcurrant infused imperial stout. Rolling in at an imposing 12% ABV, this huge and decadent dark beer dials down the charred roastiness and focuses instead on the rich, full-bodied chocolate and dark fruit character of the style.

The addition of blackcurrant enhances the dark fruit aspect of our latest concept beer, while the liquorice brings flavours of aniseed and treacle. A brandy-like warmth replaces roast malt as the backbone of this complex brew.

ABV: 12%
OG: 1150
IBU: 50
Malts: Brown, Extra Pale, Flaked Oats
Hops: Bramling X, Galena

Bottle from BD online. It pours darkest brown, near black with a thick light tan head. The aroma is rich roasted malt, loads of liquorice / aniseed, earthy roast, plain chocolate, herbal notes and some blackcurrant. The taste is pretty big, earthy roast, umami, loads of liquorice, aniseed, spicy, booze, some astringency, tangy blackcurrant, fruit compote and fruit cake with a warming umami finish. Full body and moderate carbonation. So much liquorice....! A bit harsh if truth be told. Not bad, but I had hoped for more.

Deep mahogany colour, tan head. Smells of subtle black currant, licorice, esters, roasted malts (far away). I actually hate licorice but here it seems to work properly. Medium to full body. The flavour starts with berry fruitiness and fresh licorice. Later powerful esters with roasted malts unveil convincingly. It is not only superbly made, it’s absolutely unique.

375ml bottle from Brewdog online store, Halloween 2016. Reddish tinged black-brown colour with a foamy beige head leaving lacing. Nose of liquorice, fruity berry, coffee & chocolate. Taste is roasted malt, lots of liquorice, with caramel, blackcurrant, coffee & chocolate and some earthy bitterness. Medium bodied, soft carbonation, dry liquorice finish. Quite OK.

You can't go wrong with licorice. Well, you can, but this really works!

Bottle, shared with the bro. Dark brown body with a thin beige head. Very faint lacing. Aroma of berries and liquorice. Flavour of Black Jack sweets and aniseed with a peppery finish. Thin body with a sticky mouthfeel. Light fizz. In a blind tasting I’d never guess this was 12% ABV. Disappointingly thin but complex enough to keep me interested.

At BBF, deep clear brown color with lots of reddish taints, aroma of shrubs, mint and licorice, flavor of caramel, dark fruits and some chocolate in the back, extremly sour. Interesting But not too my looking.

Well I guess this is great if you like liquorice. Aroma is extremely spicy and very weird, liquorice and blackcurrant, but also minty. Flavour is similar, also has a malty undertone (reminiscent of an impy) which is nice. Not my thing, but if you like liquorice and blackcurrant you might be into this.
