Hi.P.A. is a medium-bodied groove with a fresh and fruitful nose of tympanic temptation. It begins and ends with a big hop bite that is itself forever balanced on the brink by a steady rhythm of malt. Dry-hopped for extra quenching in the face of heat and beat, it’s an ideal accompaniment to chilling out, turning inward or sailing onward through the music of the night toward the dawn of the mind. It’s the liquid way to say be here now lest you never come this way again.

Hazy medium orange body, medium buff head. Soapy, herbal, piney aroma. Hoppy body, mostly of the herbal variety, but some citrus. Plain, bland bready malts. Average fare.

Sampled from a 12 oz brown bottle this beer poured a caramel color with a very small white head that faded quickly. The aroma was fruity and piney hops with a touch of resin. The flavor was dry and bitter grapefruit and floral hops. There was not a great malt base to balance the hops. The finish was long, bitter and harsh.

Pours a hazy, translucent orange amber with a frothy, lacing, slightly off white head. Straight forward aroma of lemons, grapefruits, flowers and clover honey. Flavor is sweet, spicy and bitter with hints of honey, clove, lemons, pine and flowers. Finish is sweet and slightly dry. Nice, love Magic Hat and this was very standard from them.

2007 bottle...slightly cloudy...copper body and off-white head...mmmm malts and hops,...a nice fresh lemon zest aroma mingled with malts...some subtle pear as well...body is soft with a mild hop presence with enough malts to back it up and make it an easy to drink IPA...love the lady on the label..nice lacing as well

A hazy golden IPA with a thick creamy egg white head. Aroma is pungeant and pleasant, pinhey, and hoppy, with definite maltiness, all caramelly. In mouth, a biscuiity malt is well complemented by nice floral hops, restrained but sustained, and light grapefruit. An ideal IPA. Bought at CJs in Potsdam.

Has a light brown colour and not too much head if you pour half of it at a slant, but the little that is there sticks around for a bit. Strong hops smell with some fruity elements on the side. The taste is rather bitter from the large amount of hops thrown in. Has a sort of bite at the top of the mouth, so doesn’t go down that easy, but easy enough I would assume. Good times in a bottle.

Poured light copper with off white head that lasted less than a minute. Initially the aroma seemed slightly spicy like a chili pepper. Behind that is sweet maltiness. The taste starts with a medley of spices that I can’t distinguish. I swear I taste chili powder. After that are light floral hoppiness and some sweet maltiness. Interesting brew.

Bottle. Pours a golden amber color with a half finger high head that is white and dies quickly. Aromas are light of floral hops and apple juice sweetness. Flavor is malt heavy and sort of sweet. A bit of hops comes through, but calling this an IPA is a bit off the mark in my opinion.

Had this on tap at the Trivia Pub in Moon. Yes, this has the typical pellucid IPA color, which is slightly darker than the wonted pale yellow american beers. Aroma? I can’t smell much but it’s probably because of the two cigar smokers nearby. I do pick up some fruity hops, but just barely. Let me expound on the flavors. IPA is not my cup of tea but this is not as IPA – ish as most IPA. I just had an amber ale that was more bitter grapefruit than this. For most high end big beer raters on this site, a beer like this may taste a bit watered-down. For me, it makes it more enjoyable; the flavors of IPA without the jackbooted medicinal qualities. This beer is bonhomie, probably one of the most tolerable IPAs I’ve tasted and I’ve tasted a few. There are slightly fruity acceptable grapefruit peel flavors on my palate. The finish is not as coarse as I expected from an IPA. I’m not sure if this should be classified as an IPA. The worst IPAs I’ve had are Blue Point Hoptical Illusion and Sierra Nevada Celebration Ale this is much more acceptable than those. Up till now my highest rated IPA was Brooklyn East India Pale Ale and East End Big Hop IPA. The anti de trop flavor of this magic hat now makes it my favorite among a style that I can care less for.
