Cask at Crosse Keys JDW. Very clear red brown colour with small beige bubbly head. Aroma all grainy malt and not much else. Maybe a touch of treacle. Taste is light caramel with little bit of bitterness. Bit of that treacle again and some sweetness. Quite thin tasting. --- Beer merged from original tick of Gallantry on 09 Sep 2019 at 16:06 - Score: Appearance - 6 | Aroma - 7 | Flavor - 7 | Texture - 4 | Overall - 7. Retro review from Spring 2012 Wetherspoons Beer festival; dark brown colour with slight red tinge pretty boring taste. Insipid!

There’s not much flavour to this Everards brew, but it does have a fair texture.

Cask at Hamilton Hall, JDW, London. Pours clear, red-gold with a small, foamy head. Modest toffee, toast and dark fruit in the nose. Sweet toffee flavor with hints of fruit, some frosting, mild cocoa. Light bodied with fine carbonation. Sweet, sticky finish with burnt sugar, some more toffee, light vanilla frosting and French toast. Pretty nice, if a bit basic.

Shakespeare’s Head Spoons, Holborn. Clear amber beer. Little white head. Dry palate. Fresh minerals. Quite well balanced. Mild pale malt. Astringent hops. Dry finish. Okay.

Cask at the Monks Retreat (JDW), Reading. Copper with a thin cream head; weak malty aroma; full-bodied, sweet, and grainy; with a dry biscuity finish with some soft bitterness. Nothing more than OK.
