Collaboration with The Hanging Bat, this is ridiculously drinkable at it's ABV. A sticky, sweet beer similar to a barleywine but with the spiciness of rye to boot. Caramel, candied fruit and leathery notes add to the complexity of this beer.

Bottle shared at the John/Jim tasting. Cloudy brown with a small tan head. Aroma of dark fruits, cheesy malts, rye and light citrus. Flavour is above moderate sweet and moderate bitter. Above medium bodied with soft carbonation.

Bottle. Nose is rye.. hints of tobacco, warm leather, brown sugar, and caramel. Taste is brown sugar, banana, a little smoke and leather, caramel, rye, a little toffee, orange, spice, very herbal hops with some grapefruit rind bitterness with pepper in the finish from the booze. There is a lot going on, and it’s too bitter with the booze, which seems to be a common problem with the new wave of barley wine variants. However its amenable enough.

Schenkt stroperig rood/amber met volle fijne licht gekleurde kraag. Aroma van caramel, suiker, graan, aards. Smaak is zacht, glad, alcoholisch, graan, zwak bitter, matig zoet, plakkerig, vanille, lekker dik, redelijke body. Overall ok caramel en graan zijn bepalend. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone --- Beer merged from original tick of Rye Smile on 25 May 2018 at 16:43 - Score: 7

@ Gents Bierfestival 2015. Hazy dark amber colour, white foam. Fruity with piny hoppy notes. Also sweet hints of caramel and sugar. Balance is ok. Good beer.

Sample @ 6de Gents Bierfestival 2015.

At GBF. ’Rye wine’ is apparently the newest variation on the barley wine theme, after wheat wine... Light beige head over a copper coloured beer; aroma has a lot of what I euphemistically tend to call ’freshly fermented farmland’, next to medlar, brown bread, redcurrant, brown rhum, banana. Sweet, lush fruit onset, banana, peach, medlar, brown sugar sweetness, soft carbo with vinous mouthfeel, ’deep’ sourish aspect probably coming from the high amount of rye, caramelly, little bit toasted in the end with peppery hops and warming, cognac-like alcohol, but the sweetness cloys. Interesting idea, may improve with age.

(Thx! for sharing) Sampled 330 ml. bottle @ Gents Bierfestival 2015. Deep red amber, little tanned head. Nose is weird rye, bitter dark bread, syrup, candy, herbal & rye bitter, odd, malt, sugar. Taste is odd herbal, sweet, black bread rye, candy, herbal, very bitter leaves, weird herbal bread, very heavy sugar & no balance,… The rye is all weird & excessive. Far too bitter. Herbal bread body. Odd, this needs a barrel to even things out.
