Halia is a farmhouse ale aged in wine barrels with whole peaches, resulting in bright, effervescent fruit notes in a soft, hazy body that finishes slightly tart and sweet with the pleasant character of ripe, juicy peaches. Literally meaning “remembrance of a loved one” in Hawaiian, Halia was brewed in memory of the dear friend of one of our brewers who loved peaches.

Clear, cider-coloured beer with no head. Dry, spicy nose, and - indeed - cider (if utterly dry one), sweet woodruff, flowery, wild yeasts. Again very flowery, with a real sourish-green fruit flavour, absolutely peach, Petit Beurre biscuits and exotic spices. Acidthinning at its worst. Gets very sour in the end.

Bottle at Leuven innovation festival. Slight hazy beautiful golden/honey colored with short lasting white head. Brett, pineapple, canned peach, cream, yoghurt, hay, honey. Medium sour with a honey/yoghurt underlying sweetness. Medium bodied with sparkling carbonation. Pretty nice.

Bottle thanks to Brian! Pours cloudy straw, small white head, dissipates fairly quickly some lacing. Aroma is light peach, not really overt, some funky horseblanket. Flavor is oaky with some peach and funk. Light tart, lightly funky, lemon, stonefruit skins. Medium body. Not bad.

Bottle split at CBC Clerko, 15/04/15, thanks to Kenwold. Hazed orange golden with a moderate off white cap. Nose is tangerine, pissy straw, peach, bretty notes, orange pith, stale bread. Taste comprises mellow fruit skins, peach well evident, lemon zest, apricot, tropical fruit notes, hint of butterscotch, light wood. Medium bodied, fine carbonation, semi drying close with light puckerings. Decent sour, peach comes through well.

Craft Clerkenwell. Bruce’s UK Swan Song. Very hazy gold beer, tidy pale cream coloured head. Palate is airy and semi dry, reasonable carbonation. Mild seltzer. Pleasant mellow peach. Mild sour tang, very mild. Modest brett, touch of white wine. Light finish. Nice but could be brighter and more vibrant.

Bottle at Bruce’s leaving drinks. It pours cloudy gold with a small white head. The nose is soft, juicy, sour peach, apricot yoghurt, creamy, earthy brett, vanilla, spice and parma violets. The taste is crisp, tart, sherbet, peach, apricot, earth, funky, lactic, oak, hay, gooseberry, vinous, touch of acidity and light vanilla with a dry finish. Medium body and hugging, foamy carbonation. Perhaps more sweet than as sour as I had hoped for. Still pretty solid.
