Bottle gifted to me by Ron. Pours golden with a small but lasting off white head. Aroma is caramel, light hop and light malt. Quite sweet, very light bitterness. Light body, sticky texture, average carbonation. Overall better than expected.

Can from corner shop. Dark gold, with a bit of carbonation. Smells of malt adjunct, but not that unpleasant. Sweet, syrupy taste with an odd malty/corn syrup aftertaste. Medium body, at least the carbonation is kept in check. Not good by even forgiving standards but still better than I thought it would be.

Bottle from Tesco, Yardley, Birmingham. Poured a crystal clear light amber with a thin broken white head. The aroma is skunky malt and not so pleasant. The flavour is moderate bitter with a light watery floral hop bitter palate. Light bodied with average carbonation.

Bottle from Quality Save, Manchester. Has a lovely golden colour, which is probably why it is marketed in a clear glass bottle, but unfortunately this makes it quite skunky in character. It’s a malty ale with hints of grainy chocolate and fairly crisp.

50cl bottle from Tesco’s, Wokingham. It seems every brewer and his dog is producing a "Golden Ale" at the moment - even Shepherd Neame have brought out a Spitfire Golden Ale - this one was definitely brewed by the brewer’s dog, rather than the brewer.

it’s a standard amber brew with a fast fading white head; touch of spicy hops on the aroma; stewed matly body; and a toffee finish. Not good.
