Den Zwarte Sinjoor

Aroma has a fair whack of liquorice and some roasted malts. Flavour has the sweetness from liquorice. Also a hint of blackcurrant. Roasted malt and cocoa come through strongly in the finish.

Bottle from Dranken Geers, Oostaker, Nr Gent, Belgium. Consumed at home Tuesday 30th December 2014 Pours dark brown a little hazy, there was a beige head but it soon departed. Another beer that I have served a bit on the cold side. Some spiciness and chocolate in fact a lovely sweet chocolate cake with a Belgian edge, really nice. I was not expecting an awful lot from this, however I was pleasantly surprised, it was very good. A7 A4 T7 P4 Ov15 3.7

Sampled @ O.B.E.R. Kerstbierfestival 2014, Essen. Dunkel rötlichbraunes Bier mit geringer beiger Schaumkrone. Geruch sehr röstmalzig, leicht schokoladig, reife dunkle Früchte. Geschmack nach reifen dunklen Früchten, sehr röstmalzig, wenig Kaffee.

Bottle shared with Erwin Van Moll @ Brewpub Van Moll. Opaque dark brown to black color, small to average sized beige to light brown head. Aroma is malts, a hint of sweetness, slightly some roast, slightly earthy. Taste malts, again some kind of weird sweetness, slightly iron, a hint of caramel, lightly bitter. Ok body and carbonation. Drinkable.

7/XII/14 - 33cl bottle from Willems (Grobbendonk) @ home - BB: IX/2017 (2014-1473) Thanks to Beerlover_Ben for picking this one up for me!

Little cloudy dark brown to black beer, big beige creamy irregular head, stable, non adhesive. Aroma: lots of cocoa powder, dark chocolate, quite some banana, overripe fruits, bit yeasty. MF: ok carbon, medium body. Taste: fruity start, overripe banana, yeast, sourish touch (maybe from the carbon?), pretty bitter, nice roasted flavours. Aftertaste: mainly sourish, bitter hops, some caramel, coffee, soft fruitiness, banana, yeast, dark chocolate, some alcohol, very Belgian yeast profile for a stout, but not bad at all!

Je bier een Zwarte Sinjoor noemen en dan vervolgens bruin/rood uitschenken...... jammer gemiste kans....aroma is redelijk droppig met wat anijs. smaken zijn redelijk kandij suiker zoet, matig bitter, behoorlijke aardse mouttonen (associatie met natte herfstbladeren in het bos met wat paddestoelen... iig muffig), trekdrop achtig, koffie/gebrande mouten, lichte noten. medium body, glad met lage co2..... mwah

Zwart bier met schuim. Smaak is bitter en rokerig, licht zoet met sporen van caramel. Blijft lang hangen. Erg goed.

Huge brown-beige head over deep reddish brown beer. Chocolate, coffee - or rather Ersatzcoffee, maltdrink, parsley. Roasted, lightly burnt, coffee, dark chocolate and again parsley. Underneath the roast, sweetness lurks. Quite spritzy, quite slick, medium bodied. Aftertaste leaves a malty impression. Not bad - bit sweetish stout.

At Modeste 14 . Pours black, small grey head . Smell is a bit coffee . Bit milkchoclate . Taste is milkchocolate, bit bitter . thin mouthfeel . Very nice !

Sampled draft @ Modeste 2014. Dark blackish brown, little tanned head. Coffee, light roast nose, soy chocolate milk. Taste is medium roast, coffee, touch grainy coffee, plenty of sweet soy chocolate milk, sweetish. Lighter creamy, faint grainy body. Not very spectacular but I am surprised to actually have a good, fault-less brew from ‘t Pakhuis & as an entry-beer this is great as proved by the enthusiasm @ the festival.
