250 ml bottle, from Prima Beer. BB date 29.01.15. ABV is 5%. Clear amber colour, low head, slightly off-white. Moderate aroma, hints of mild spices, malts and caramel. The flavour is fairly fresh and fruity, medium dry, hints of mild spices and caramel again, som hops in the finish, but the bitterness is still very moderate. Easy drinking, nice enough.

Clear deep orange to amber beer, big creamy beige head, stable, adhesive, leaving a nice lacing in the glass. Aroma: hoppy, bit metallic, malty, hay, grains, green banana peel, little herbal. MF: ok carbon, medium body. Taste: lots of banana, bit of citrus, malty, some caramel, bit of hay, grains. Aftertaste: sweet touch, metallic, banana, lots of caramel, sweet, a bit off, little bitter, cow fodder.

When the elderly Belgian beer genre of ’spéciale belge’ got official recognition from the Flemish government in 2007, Haacht seized the opportunity to launch this new and very typical example of the style. Yellowish white, not very stable head, orangey amber colour, malt sweet profile (caramel, almond) with nutty and doughy middle phase, some mild yeast spiciness and soft florally hopped finish but little bitter. I’d prefer a De Koninck from tap in Antwerp if I need a spéciale belge, but this is okay - though clearly lacking personality, but that is precisely what I had expected from this brewery.

33cl Bottle in The Green, Brugge on 31st Jan 2014: this isn’t very special to be honest. The bar was advertising this heavily so I got sucked in to have one. Orange to amber body, clear: white head that refused to hang around. Sweet lager like brew in looks, smell and taste: struggled to enjoy it, luckily the company was good and I could palm some off to the wife and friends. Disappointed, bog standard Pilsner/lager with nothing to set it apart from all the rest. Gets an average score throughout because that is what it is, average.

Slightly hazy amber colour, creamy off-white creamy lasting head, nice lacing. Fruity aroma, apricot, peach, caramel, citrus. Mild sweetness, some fruitiness, a bit of spice. Medium body, light creamy mouthfeel, average carbonation, slightly bitter and fruity finish, nice.

bottle pours clear amber . rather small white head smell and taste are very unintence ... good carbo nothing here thats not standard in the special belge style . accept this is just too damn weak ...
