At Chriso pre GBBF Shindig 2013. Good harsh coffee and chocolate. It’s a decent harsh bitter imperial stout. It’s chocolate but harsh.

Bottle from Cotteridge Wines; dark brown pour with velvety tan head, coffee and hop aroma, forward taste is expresso coffee but backed up by some piney resinous hop strange combination but a dream of a taste some oily residue on the tongue, very enjoyable with an embarrassing level of carbonation, the ABL is well hidden did I say ABL I meant ABV maybe my brain is leaking or I’ve been reading too many Dommod2011 & the_bish reviews.

Keg at the Birmingham Beer Bash 2013. Poured a dark mahogany with a frothy tan head. The aroma is rich grassy hop leading to a medium to strong bitter flavour with lots of nettle, grass and some medicinal notes on the palate. This is a beer packed full of flavour!

Chelmsford Beer Festival. Opaque dark brown beer. Tidy head of tan bubbles. Palate is smooth and a little dry with fine carbonation. Smooth dark malts, not heavy. A little tang. Touch of dark chocolate and a little violets. Whisper of candy fruits. Finishes semi dry with mellow coffee and little alcohol spice. Semi dry finish. Complex, tasty and pretty easy drinking.

Cask at Old Foutain. It pours jet black with a medium tan head. The nose is rich roast, bitter coffee, cocoa, salted caramel, earthy, spice and light tobacco. The taste is rich roasted malt, a shit load of coffee, high bitterness, some acidity, cocoa, salted liquorice, earth, rocky road, spice, wood and warming alcohol with a lingering roasty finsh. Full body, moderate carbonation and oily mouth-feel. Not quite the beer for a hot day(like today).....but packed full of flavour. Perhaps a touch too bitter even and a little cloying as it warms up. Nonetheless I can see why people are loving it! A big beer.

Cask at the Old Fountain - London. Pours black with a frothy mocha head. Nose holds loads of rich, bitter coffee well roasted, baking cocoa, charred wood. Medium sweet flavor with lots of bitter espresso, bittersweet baking cocoa, burnt wood and earth bitterness, hints of spicy pine, vanilla. Full boded with fine carbonation. Great condition. Warming finish with moderate sweetness, dry burnt wood, dirty baking cocoa, tons more dark and bitter coffee, burnt sugars, earth, some alcohol cajones, espresso, torched moss. Superlative stuff.

Cask-conditioned at the Three Tuns, Bristol 10/07/2013. Dark brown with a hint of red and slight, beige head. Aroma of coffee beans, dark chocolate and a touch of citrus hop. Surprisingly easy drinking for the ABV, with well-integrated coffee and alcohol, toasty malts and a dryish finish with a touch of hop. Excellent.

Aroma: Charcoal, Twiglets and raisins.

Appearance: Jet black body with a thin tan head that gradually fades. Excellent lacing.

Taste: Leather, shoe polish and prunes. Tiglets spice on the finish. Intense flavour.

Palate: Medium body with an oily texture. Soft carbonation.

Overall: Complex and intense - each sip brings something new. Unfortunately, I couldn’t quite get past the shoe polish flavour.
