Canette 473ml. De couleur ambrée-brune et claire. Nez de malt rôti doux, moyen de caramel, léger de houblon herbeux avec des notes de chocolat noir et des petites traces de toffee brûlé et de fruits (cerises noires). Moyenne-mince en bouche avec un pétillement moyen-bas et une texture aux notes crémeuses et aqueuses. Petites notes fruitées (cerises noires) accompagné de traces de fumée de bois lors de l’entrée en bouche auquel se rajoute rapidement un goût de malt moyennement rôti et aux petites notes brûlées, un léger goût de caramel avec de faibles traces de biscuits puis en finale l’on retrouve une légère amertume de houblon herbeux. Post-goût moyen, légèrement amer de rôti et léger de houblon herbeux avec des petites traces de noix asséchantes.

Originally rated June 2004. Wellington County Ale was considered a pale ale, but now that Wellington has revised their labels, it is called a dark ale. Its colour is of deep golden-amber, with fine carbonation creating a medium head with nice lacing. Scent of toffee and fruits is detected, but also, some harder to find aromas. Taste of caramel with hints of herbs makes this smooth beer, very refreshing. This is a great session beer.

On tap at some rock club on Queen St in Toronto. Pours amber brown with one finger of head. taste is of sweet malt with a little nuttiness and medium carbonation. Straightforward is right.

Courtesy of kiefdog. Pours dark brown with gold edges and thin tan head. The aroma is roasty with chocolate and some molasses. The taste mirrors the notes noticed in the nose with tasty chocolate mixing with molasses. The beer ends with a bit of roastiness that dries out the flavor a tad.

Draught at the Cloak and Dagger, Toronto. Rich, well balanced dark ale. Hints of chocolate, caramel, molasses. Relatively sweet but with a very good hop balance. Rich malts and cereals, with a smooth, creamy body. Can, 473 ml, purchased at the LCBO, savoured on April 23 2008; eye: ruby, clear, slight effervescence, beige head that disappears almost completely, a bit of lacing; nose: quite malty, hoppier than it shows, light nuts, acridness from the roasting; mouth: creamy, lots of malt, nuts, acridness, a bit of hops, slight fruity that comes out of nowhere, finale where the acridness is quite presente, a bit lactic, mildly bitter, slightly sweet, medium body, not much carbonation; overall: correct FRANÇAIS Canette, 473 ml, achetée à la LCBO, savourée le 23 avril 2008; œil : rubis, claire, très légère effervescence, mousse beige abondante qui disparaît presque complètement, un peu de dentelle; nez : très maltée, plus houblonnée qu’elle ne le montre (vérifié en rétro-olfaction), léger noix, âcreté de torréfaction; bouche : crémeuse, beaucoup de malt, noix, âcreté, un léger houblon, un petit fruité qui apparaît de nulle part, finale où l’âcreté de la torréfaction est bien présente, un p’tit côté lactique, moyennement amère, très légèrement sucrée, corps moyen, peu carbonatée; en résumé : correct

This dark ale poured a nice rich dark brown with a choppy tan head. To the nose at first was ripe fruit, sweet molassas and spice. First sip was roasty with full flavours of burnt malts and a little caramel / molassas flavours. The finish was also of roasted malt but had a slightly hoppy taste to the end. Palate was slightly bitter.

Bottle: Poured a very dark brown beer with a nice head with medium retention. Aroma is really pleasant with malt and roastiness. Taste is very refreshing with again lots of malts and a very nice finish of roastiness. Body is above average with OK carbonation. Overall, I was quite surprise by what I thought would be another classic English ale; it proved to had more character then expected and I’m starting to really like this brewery.

(Cask) Dark clear brown with a nice moka head, slight malt aroma, which is more intennse and woody in the mouth. Restrained floral hops are dancing with the malts. Slight alcool warmth was detected. Good body.
