345ml bottle into pint glass. Spicy savoury nose. A bit smoky even. Copper beer with small lasting white head. A few tiny bubbles. Hoppy bitter finish which lingers. It’s OK.

Bottle at Jacksons on George
Clear dark golden with a small off-white head and some lacing. Aroma of caramel and fruity. Flavors the same, sweet
Decent, but this is no West Coast IPA.

345ml bottle. Deep golden amber colour, thin off-white foam head and aroma of caramel, orange, toffee. Taste is sweet malt caramel with a floral orangey hop tangy bitterness. Slightly oily mouthfeel, medium bodied, medium carbonation, some residual sweetness through to a dry bitter finish. OK IPA.

Tap at Portland hotel, Melbourne. Slightly dark amber colour. Thin head. Toffee taste, not overly hoppy/bitter like most IPA´a, which I like.

It’s quite simple - this beer lacks the complexity of a good IPA. there’s something almost plastic about the aroma, which is mainly malty biscuity-ness with some burnt caramel. There are more hops on the palate and a reasonable amount of malt, but this beer is just a pass when rated against other IPAs.

From a 345ml bottle on 23/5/2010. This is my favourite of the James Squire standards. This is a pretty full on brew. The aroma is roasted malt with burnt malt, spices and a little bit of fruit evident, accompanied by a long, clanging hop finish. Not a particularly subtle beer, but chock full of flavour.

Copper, small white head. Dry hoppy aroma, but not all that much there. More floral hops upon tasting, finishes with a dull bitter kick. Toasted malt middle perhaps overbalances things towards the sweet side. Heavy enough on the palate. Not all that sophisticated or wild, but fine.

Amber pour with a small persistent head.Definitely English aroma, with great caramel malt and some toffee as well. Not too much in the way of hop aroma, there’s just a hint of earthy and resinous notes.Similar flavours (caramel), but here is where the hops come into play with some grassy resin and earthy notes, finishing with a prominent sharp bitterness.Carbonation is on the high side.Need more aroma/flavouring hop additions, rather than just bittering.
