Muddy is Joe’s loyal sheep dog, now an OAP in dog years he’s seen more apples pressed than he’d care to recall, he rather likes having a cider named after him though! Muddy Scamp is for the traditional cider enthusiasts, it holds a deliciously natural, bittersweet apple taste followed by a surprisingly smooth, fresh woodland aftertaste – just as nature intended.

330ml made up bottle from lowcostbeer.com probably from bag in a box. Clear light amber, still, minimal bubbles. A fruity apple juice aroma with brown sugar hints, some cores. Taste again has a nice fruitiness, some flora and light brown sugar sprinkle. Lacks a bit of character but is tasty. Smooth body.

25/8/2022. From BIAB at the 43rd Peterborough Beer Festival. Pours clear pale golden with a small bubbly white head. Aroma of unripe apple, caramel, vanilla, flowers, twiggy edge. Moderate sweetness and bitterness, light tartness. Medium body, oily, soft to flat carbonation. Dry and rather bitter finish. Quite drinkable.

Bag-in-a-box at the Hope Tap (JDW), Reading. Slightly hazy pale gold. Dry, tannic apple skins. Bit of cardboard. Driest I’ve had at the festival, drier than I like. Very thin and watery too. Poor, verging on unpleasant. Didn’t even bother finishing a third.

Bag in Box at The George, Croydon. It pours pretty clear pale gold with a small, bubbly white head. The aroma is earth, funky, apple pie, vanilla, apple skin, earth, musty, gooseberry, whitecurrant and sherbet. The taste is quite mellow, dry, tart, apple skin, white grape, gooseberry, tannin, oak with a firmly dry finish. Medium bodied and still. Nice tart and dry. Akin to a dry white wine.
