Úlfrún is a tip o’ the hat to the American new-wave IPA.

Over a multi-grain fermentation of barley, wheat, rye and oats, the Mosaic, Citra and Centennial hops deliver the distinct fruitiness and trigger the tropical delight of pineapple and mango.

Ingredients: Pure Icelandic water, malted barley, malted rye, malted wheat, hops, oats and yeast.

Fra boks på Mi2, Cardinal (Asko Rogaland ølmesse): klar gylden, ok skum. Aroma og smak av gress og tropiske frukter. Grei nok, og med ok bitterhet. Men konklusjonen er "forgettable".

330 ml can. Practically clear golden body with a quite big white head. The aroma is pretty weak, just some hint of fruit with some pale malt and recognizable Sorachi Ace. Flavor is a lot better, distinct fruity with the tropical parts like pineapple and mango, but also some peach and citric fruit, mild malt, slightly spicy yeast and some bitterness. Medium to light bodied and smooth in aftertaste. Very high drinkability but not exactly a beer that make me think of an IPA, maybe more in the direction of a hoppy Saison, still a bit malty for that, something in between of a hoppy Saison and American Pale Ale? Who cares about styles anyway, a nice one for the summer night.

330ml bottle, beer gift from Frau Eva. Huge, bubbly pearl white head. Scattered lacing. Bright golden body. Grassy hops on the nose, hints of grapefruit. Ripe citrus flavours together with moments of fruity caramel. Very dry ending, with a bitter twist. Soft in the mouth. Nice and rather moreish. (Outside in the sun at the veranda, Tromsø 22.05.2016).
