Observers of yestercentury once doubted the existence of the Dark Swan, stating the fair-feathered fowl was the only color of its kind. Explorers eventually upended that theory, shocking the world and shining light on the Dark. This beer might just do the same. It’s a sour ale fermented with dark red wine grapes, giving it its uniquely deep and rich purple hue. Then it received the signature Lagunitas treatment with a healthy dose of experimental dry hops. This might just shock your taste buds!

Sampled on draft at 3 Rivers this beer poured a plum black color with a huge foamy pink-purple head that left very good lacing. The aroma was red wine and berries. The flavor was tart with dark fruits, berries and red wine. Medium length finish. Moderately full bodied.

Lovely color! Deep Purple. And no Smoke on the Water. More like a Highway Star. Mad woman from Belgium…Strangely enough a quite moderate intensity in the aroma. Pleasant mild acidity. A sour for the people. Nice refreshing stuff. Especially for this style. Berries, yeast, vinous, fruity and mild lactic. Nice, but felt a bit thin for a beer at 8.5%. Dangerously easy drinkable.

This beer is a dark ruby-purple color with a medium pinkish-white head that burns away steadily to a film. Short strings of lace. Tart fruit, yeast and malt in the nose. Medium body with flavors of tart berry, yeast and doughy malt. The finish is tart and vinous with a berry and grape aftertaste. Decent overall.

Keg at Euston Tap, East Lodge. It pours clear ruby with a decent pinkish - white head. The aroma is sweet - sour, vinous, jammy red berry, red grape, musty, cherryade and cherry cola. The taste is initially dry, tart, tangy, sweet - sour, jammy fruits, red berry, red grape, raspberry pip, musty, vinous, damp wood, candy cane, cherry pie, wet leaves, kick of alcohol heat and cherryade with a tangy berry finish. Medium body and moderate, foamy carbonation. Crazy fruity. Could have more depth, but it's fun and grabs your attention.

Tap. Head of Steam, Leeds. Hazy purple. Slim ring of off white head. Nose has red grape. Blackcurrant. Some lactic twang. Taste is fruity and lightly sour. Never feels the ABV. Soft carbonation. Light twang to finish. Ok. It’s an easy drinker.

On tap at Bishops Arms Sundbyberg. A bit hazy dark amber with a small head. Aroma of berries, light funk, fruit and some wine. The finish was a bit sour. Not bad but a bit heavy.
