I'm sampling from a 37.5 cl bottle obtained from Belgian Happiness last year. Some mighty cool weather tonight, time to have a quad. The glass is a Straffe Hendrik large tulip, I open the bottle before pouring. I see a shiny, dark mahogany body followed by a long lasting skim of khaki tan foam. The nose is inviting, ripe fruit, some peat and yeast. And the drink is likewise good. I get plenty of the whisky, dates, raisins, malt, earth, grain and a bit of hard candy. There is an unexpected bitterness finishing. My second barrel-aged Prearis Grand Cru in two weeks, just to say. I think I prefer this one, more challenging. A few years back, I would have been put off.

Bottle. Deep dark brown color. Peat and a hint of iodine dominating the aroma. Malty sweet caramelly flavor with, again, dominating peat. Whisky. Firm, peaty but tasty.

Pours borwn, clear. Small white head. Smell is extremely intense, peat all the way ( even though this is backblended 2:1 ) . Taste is very full, intense peat. mild roasty undertone, but peat does overtake most to all to me.

17 August 2019. At Gents Bierfestival X. Cheers to Anke, Kevin & the crew! Clear dark amber with a lasting, small, frothy, tan head; lots of lacing. Aroma of liqueur-soaked raisin, candied date, dried green tea, brioche, wood, vanilla, tobacco, peated whisky if subtle. Taste is medium malty sweet, quite some candied fruits (ripe plum, raisin, dates), somewhat soaked in liqueur; brioche-like, slightly caramelly maltiness & earthy bitterness combined, smoky, woody & herbal accents in the back. Dry, earthy hoppy finish, lingering dried fruit, wood, warming & subtle peated whisky alcohol. Full body, oily-creamy texture, fizzy carbonation. Not overwhelming, but not underwhelming either. Glad to experience that not every peat-infused beer has to be dominated by peat.

Small off-white rim over dark brown beer. Marzipan & rosemary. As to Islay... ? Thick maltnose. In the mouth, smoke and oak appear, if very restrained, and in fact not for the worse. Very mild phenols, tarred poles, fusels. Medium bodied, alcoholwarming, long-lasting mild peat. Mild - but good.
