“Green Walnut” is a surprising and innovative Lambic beer of Oud Beersel. For the production of the Green Walnut real fruit is used, in the same way as for the Oude Kriek of Oud Beersel.

In July the still green walnuts are gathered in the Oud Beersel orchard and are added to the Lambic beer that matured in wooden wine barrels.

After the bottle fermentation this sparkling walnut Lambic of Oud Beersel is called Green Walnut, which is a strong companion for blue-veined cheese, dried ham and salads with nuts.

The green walnuts macerate in the Lambic beer enabling them to unfold their taste and flavour. The initial bitterness which is extracted from the walnuts is tempered during the ripening of the walnut Lambic. This results in a delicate balance between the light sourness of the Lambic beer and the bitterness of the green walnuts. The wooden wine barrels provide a subtle touch of red fruits to the beer.

Bottle. Unclear orange golden body with a big, fluffy white head. Nice funky aroma, pretty classics Oud Beersel with citric fruit, lemon, wood, cellar notes and Brett. Same goes for the flavor, its more complex than a ordinary lambic and if I didn't know I would have guessed that this was a Geuze, the walnut is not recognized by me but there is some kind of unusually fruit here that might as well be the green nut flavor. Fine body and long lasting aftertaste. Very refreshing, complex and tasty, wonderful.

Bag in a box at Hopa. Deeper, orangeish golden with no head. Van egy furcsa, foldes-dohos jellege, gondolom a diotol, ami nem kifejezetten parosul jol a savas kozeggel es a funkkal. Jol hangzik, de nem kifejezetten mukodik

A golden Gueuze with a thin white head. In aroma, nice ground cherries, lactic acid, Epsom salts, horse blanket, very nice and complex. In mouth, a nice tart cherry with light Brett, light lactic notes, light mineral Epsom salts, green apples, nice and tart. Bottle at ratebeer Quebec gathering.

Had it fresh, but this tine aged ! Sampled 2024 . Pours rather unclear, no real head. Scent is funky, rather rough lambic. Age shows, but isnt teoublesome. Taste is full, tart dry, very oaky. Oxidation notes - but not bad. The green walnut vibe has faded , remaining as an oily, fullnfewtyre rather than aromatic. Decent. Perhaps a bit too old by now but still perfevtly drinkble, and i might even enjoy it more than fresh. Sweet spot should probably be at around... 7 years?

Box at Delirium, Brussels, 8th November 23. Cloudy murky brown. Aroma is strange. Taste is tart and dirty, I think this was not right, it was undrinkable, staff poured it away.

Bottled (from Systembolaget). Hazy orange colour, small white head. Nice tartish acidic wood with some slight fruity and mild sweetish notes. Flavour is quite similar with a nice dry finish.

0.75l bottle. Hazy orange body with a white head and some sediments. Aroma and taste of vinegar, toast and lemon peel. Walnuts are not evident for me tbh. Nice lambic but it sounds much more interesting than it actually is.
