Interesting beer.........It’s got a really nice smooth subtle sweetness, reminds me of a good mead. Really nice caramel malts, some piney hops, and a semi bitter finish. A pleasure to sip and enjoy.

A dark orange amber ale with a thin dark off white head. Aroma of hops and rising bread dough, lightly vinous, and fruity notes, some figs. In mouth, a rich malt with mineral notes, British hops, sustained light bitterness, and roastyness. Alcohol warmth in final. A nice barley wine. Tasted Nov. 2008

Bottle, 8%. Fruity, vinous aroma. Cloudy red colour. The flavour is fruity, slightly sweet. A little vinous note, hint of vanilla. Syrupy mouthfeel. OK, but I expect a lot more from this ABV.

Bouteille 341ml. De couleur ambrée foncée et claire. Nez fruité (abricots, léger dagrumes et de prunes, notes de pommes), malté de caramel butterscotch aux notes rôties et terreuses, léger de miel, dalcool et de houblon résineux (botes citriques et herbeuses) avec des notes de bois humide. Moyennement ronde en bouche avec un pétillement bas-moyen et une texture légèrement sirupeuse. Goût fruité (abricots, léger dagrumes et de prunes, notes de pêches et de pommes, traces de raisins) accompagné dun goût moyen-amer de houblon résineux et aux notes citriques (présent toute la gorgée) lors de lentrée en bouche auquel se rajoute un goût malté de caramel butterscotch sucré avec un léger goût de toffee rôti ainsi que des notes de biscuits et de pain. Parallèlement, lon retrouve un moyen goût dalcool liquoreux et légèrement réchauffant jusqu en finale, où lon assiste à un regain damertume de houblon plus asséchant, légèrement herbeux et terreux ainsi qu avec des notes boisées (bois humide et fût de chêne) et épicées (poivre très doux). Post-goût long-moyen et aux notes sèches, moyennement amer dalcool, de houblon herbeux, légèrement terreux et aux notes citriques et résineuses, léger de rôti et avec un goût fruité (zest dagrumes, pelures de prunes et de pêche).

Bottle: Poured a deep clear copper color ale with a medium foamy head with good retention and some light lacing. Aroma of sweet malt with some toffee notes and caramel. Taste is also dominated by some sweet malt with distinctive notes of caramel and toffee. Fairly low hops presence which does fit the beer properly as accent should be put toward malt. Medium body with good carbonation and no apparent alcohol. I very much appreciated that one and it reminds me of Youngs Old Nick.

341ml bottle from Harry! Nose of light berry fruitiness, caramel, and grassy hops; rusty red with a medium straw head; flavor is sweetness, berry, caramel, and light alcohol; a small amount of hops shows in the finish. Unusual!

Brown bottle, 341 ml, purchased at La trappe à fromage (Gatineau), savoured on March 31 2008; eye: copper, clear, tiny ring of beige head, no effervescence, a bit of lacing; nose: malt, lots of caramel, alcohol; mouth: caramel, malt, alcohol, a bit of pepper, light hops, finale in big caramelized malt with a good presence of hops, alcohol stays on the tongue making this not that enjoyable, rather sweet, mild bitterness and astringency, full body, slightly sticky texture, a bit thin, not much carbonation; overall: disappointing FRANÇAIS Bouteille, brune, 341 ml, achetée à La trappe à fromage (Gatineau), savourée le 31 mars 2008; œil : cuivrée, claire, petit anneau de mousse beige, pas d’effervescence, un peu de dentelle; nez : malt, gros caramel, alcool; bouche : caramel, malt, alcool, alcool, un peu de poivre, léger houblon, finale en gros malt caramélisé avec une bonne présence de houblon, un film d’alcool plus ou moins agréable demeure sur la langue après la finale, plutôt sucrée, amertume et astringence moyenne, corsée, texture légèrement collante et un peu mince, pas très carbonatée; en résumé : déçu

Small yellowish 2mm; beautiful light chestnut coloured beer. Caramel & greenery, slightly oxydized malts, ovomaltine, some aroma of shellfish. Bitter overlying taste over flavours of very stale cookies (if there’s any BBd, I cannot spy it). Bitterness is crude, unrefined, like scorched chicory. Medium bodied, bit sticky, little bit of alcohol. Very crude, fighting flavours. Sorry, Monsieur Huard this one, I cannot dig.
