I don’t know what it was about this beer but I loved it. Poured reddish brown with a medium head. Sweet malty aroma and taste, for whatever reason I loved this stuff.

Crystal clear orange coloured body with light golden tints with no head at all. Aroma of alcohol, light malt and some apricots. Light-bodied; Decent malt flavour with not much else. Some yeast and a bit of sugars - but fairly bland, all in all. Aftertaste clean and pure, no complexity. Overall, not great and not worth trying - far substandard compared to other Southampton beers. Pass this one up unless you love to try all Mai Bocks! I sampled this 65 cL bottle purcased from K&E Discount Beverage in New Paltz, New York on 06-August-2006.

Large bottle 22 oz bomber from Vintage Estates for $3.99. Has a mildly fragrant candy aroma about it. Creamy head and it’s almost hazy orangy yellow. A little more alky bitter than I care for on the initial attack of the palate. Does not hide the 6.5% too well. During my session, the stream of carbonation continue withing my glass. Not nearly as enjoyable as Victory St. Boisterous Hellerbock, Schell Maifest or Nova Paka Valdstejn. But better than Abita Bock and Summit Maibock. That alky character keeps sticking it’s head up out finish at the end of the session.

Sample, at the Mondial de la bière, savoured June 2 2006; eye: golden, tiny white head, no effervescence; nose: faint odours almost undetectable, a bit of sweet, a bit of hops; mouth: tastes are almost undetectable, orange-sweet caramel, enjoyable average finale slightly liqueur-like FRANÇAIS Échantillon, bue au Mondial de la bière, savourée le 2 juin 2006; oeil : dorée, petite mousse blanche, pas d’effervescence; nez : odeurs faibles à peine perceptible, petite odeur de sucré, un peu de houblon; bouche : saveurs à peine perceptible, orange-caramel sucré, finale agréable moyenne légèrement liquoreuse

Bottle courtesy of Moejuck: Poured a deep amber slightly cloudy color bock with a nice foamy dirty white color head with nice retention. Aroma of sweet malt is overpowering and a bit surprising for a bock. Taste is sweeter then expected and missing some of the nutty malt quality that I was expecting. Body is quite full with some adequate carbonation. Definitely too sweet for the style and not the best from this usually fine brewery.

(Bottle 65 cl) Beautiful, clear amber with an off-white head. Aroma of yeast and fruit - not your standard Bock fare... Medium body with sweetish, fruity notes and a touch of caramel. Very limited bitterness. 061006

An orange beer with a fast disappearing off-white head. The aroma is sweet peachy, but also with a hint of metal - is it the alcohol? The flavor is sweet malty with primary notes of peaches, leading to a dry alcoholic end. I find the body weirdly thin, but at the same time You can taste the alcohol.

Small yellow, fine head, disappearing over bright orange/amber/deep golden beer. Oxydized, biscuit or cake nose, cookies; caramel-covered cake. Sharp, burnt or toasted caramel, sweet with toasted, near bitterish lining. There’s a difficult to pinpoint flavour accompagning, I’d say cypress for want of better. Something soft piney-resiny, but not hoppy. The beer seems a bit tired, carbonationwise too. I cannot find a BBD, so no explanation there. Certain alcoholic presence, without real alcoholburn. Nice beer, but somehow rather different from the German Heller Bocks I’ve had so far. ( My bottle claims 6.7 % ABV )

Clear brilliant gold body with a long lasting off-white head. Clean malty aroma, fragrant. Malt dominiates the flavor and the hops stay in the background where they should be in a good Bock. Good solid Helles Bock.
