Smoked Red Ale. Amber ale, earthy and malty, with a tannic tea flavor and a subtle smokiness. Brewed with smoked malts and pimped with a hint of Tarry Suchong, a chinese smoked tea, this amber ale is surprisingly subtle and food friendly smoked.

Bottle, 75cl corked. As BATS, at Haand Festival 2014. It pours an unclear, dark golden body under an off-white head. The aroma is lightly smoked, with a hint of peat. Dried apricotes and a touch of tea too. Quite subtle flavor with peat smoke, dried fruits and a light malty touch. Not much bitterness detected, but as in the aroma there’s some tea here, lasting for a good while. Dry and full-bodied. An unusual one indeed, but nice anyway. 140524

Ein «Cuvée unique» ohne Namen, gebraut am 12. März 2008. Zutaten: Wasser, Gerstenmalz, Rauchmalz, Hopfen, Zucker, Rauchtee, Hefe.

As BATS at St Bock in Montreal. A hazed dark amber ale with a thin mocha head, lacing. In aroma, sweet oxidized caramel malt with light sour notes, tea, organic matter, nice. In mouth, a sweet and sourish malt with light tea, light licorice, interesting. On tap at St-Bock.

At a tasting at KyotoLefty’s place. An amber-orange pour with a beige head with a funky, farmhouse, barnyard pungeant aroma with a bit of peatiness. A nice full body reveals funky, earthy, smokey and slight metallic notes. These guys make good beers not a disappointing one in the bunch!

Big bottle. Smoky, peaty, caramel, light chocolate, light vegetables. Cloudy orange-brown, lace. Some Belgian like yeasty spice. Clean, amber malts, earthy yeast and hop, light smoke. A special Belge with a bit ofmsmoke. Nice. Not mind-blowing like some of their others.

Cloudy amber beer, Light and semi dry palate. A little sourish fruit and a touch of smoky tea! Finishes semi dry. That’s about it! Different but still a bit ’meh’. Still to be knocked out by BFM.
