The Ardbeg barrel aged variant in this second generation of Black Damnations, bottle from Dranken De Moor. Thick, bit irregular, relatively stable, brownish-tinged beige, frothy, creamy head over a jet black beer with thin mahogany edges. Powerful aroma of burnt toast, iodine-like peat from the Ardbeg, whisky as such, bitter black chocolate, iron, raisin bread, vanilla-ish oak, mocha ice cream and cold black coffee, teriyaki, gravy, dried figs, walnut shells. Sweet onset, raisins and dried figs, with a sourish undercurrent of roasted grains and a well-fitting, soy sauce-like umami edge; medium carbo, a bit stinging at first but calming down later on; very thick, 'heavy', oily mouthfeel, lots of caramel, toasted nuts and black chocolate like the other BDs, coffeeish roasted bitterness and some drying, vanilla-tinged oaky tannins in the end, but more than anything, a heating whisky booziness, actual Ardbeg flavour with some spicy hops behind it. Peaty iodine comes up quite strongly in the end especially when warming up, even varnish-like solventiness. Thick, rich, intense beer like all these new BDs, distinguished by a strong iodine element from the Ardbeg - which you will really need to like in order to be able to appreciate this beer. I do, so I hugely enjoyed this one, as I did the others.

Sample @ Nieuwjaarsreceptie Gentse Biervereniging. Thanks for sharing! Dark brown/black colour, thin layer of brown foam. Sweet malty along with roasty coffee notes. Light barrel character (peat, light salty). Good, certainly good but not the Black Damnation like it used to be.

Can picked up from Asda at Brighton Marina, consumed at Sirius Boardwalk Apartments, Thursday 18th January 2018 in the company of Barry and Lynn Black as yer at with a dark brown head. This is a beast of a beer however hadn't realised it was an Ardberg barrel aged beer, so a little bit of hard work for me. Soft in the mouth, really soft mouthfeel, a touch too boozy. Mostly chocolate a bit of liquorice. If I'm bring honest ain't a fan, it's ok but I have had much better, too much whisky now showing. A6 A4 T6 P3 Ov13 3.2
