Grape ale made by this prominent Portuguese craft brewery, containing about one third wine most from the classic Iberian Alvarinho variety; at Billie's Craft Beer Fest. Loose, egg-white bubbles, but thin and open and quickly dissolving completely; hazy warm apricot blonde robe. Aroma of sweet dessert wine, sweet apples (indeed as in Alvarinho wine), pineapple, vanilla-scenting oak wood, cider, orange flesh, sweet cicely, calvados. Sweet and tart onset, very grape-forward as can be expected from a grape ale of course, soft white grape juiciness with gently but minerally prickling carbonation; hints of cooked apple, gooseberry jam and unripe mandarin, over a supple, smooth, vinous body, lightly bready but also deeply soaked in sweet-tart wine most; the sour aspect again reminds of apples, but now in a more 'green' way, and works well with the woodiness colouring the final stages. Finishes in a rich tapestry of ine most with a bready core, lingering sweet-sourness, utterly fruity, with a warming, brandy-like alcohol glow and soft citrusy (orange) accent. Sophisticated, elegant sipper, I would have sworn that this was made in Italy if I had not known any better. One of the pleasant surprises of the festival for me, I must find a bottle of this to revisit it at home.

APPEARANCE: gold color and clear. low white head with no retention. TASTE: medium barnyard and leathery notes, followed by medium-low esters (orange-like) and a low yeast background. slight acidic note. medium bitterness with a dry and yeasty finish. Draft. A golden beer with a thin head. The aroma has notes of brett lemons, and grapes. The flavor is lemons, grapes, brett, and malt, leading to a tart finish.
Grape, diacetyl, dry-ish. Sweetness builds up.

Bottle picked up from Dranken Geers, Oostakker, nr Gent, Belgie and consumed at home listening to Snapped Ankles - Stunning Luxury whilst cooking Beef, Hook Norton Double Stout and Oyster Mushroom Pies. A bit of a gusher at first, however on pouring it's a hazy amber colour with a white sticky head. Tart and also quite tangy the presence of the grapes most definitely shows. Thus far I have not been a big fan of grape beers, this does little to buck that trend. Streaky, grape a little zippy. It's ok.
