Draft. A black beer with a lazing brown head. The aroma has notes of roasted malt, alcohol, and dark chocolate. The flavor is sweet with notes of roasted malt, soy sauce, and alcohol, leading to a dry, alcoholic, and roasted finish.

Bottle: Poured a dark black color stout with a large light brown foamy head with good retention and some light lacing notes. Aroma of roasted malt with some black chocolates notes and light sugary notes. Taste is also dominated by dry roasted malt notes with some black chocolate and light residual sugar notes. Body is full with good carbonation and no apparent alcohol. Well brewed and quite enjoyable without standing out from the crowd of RIS.

At Rich’s Massive Cellar Emptying Tasting, not sure which year but I was grateful to try this Chicago classic. Deep black with ruby highlights, umami, herbal, dark cocoa. Medium bodied with a soft mouthfeel. Coffee, dark chocolate fairly dry finish and tannic bitterness. Good stuff 10% but well hidden.
