Our homage to the great smoked beers of Bamburg, the Rauchbier is a smoked dark lager, brewed in London.

Drawing on a decade of commitment to the celebration of this style, the Rauchbier is brewed with a unique smoked malted barley, kilned over open beechwood fires.

The beer is a deep mahogany in colour, and pours with an off white head. A brooding aroma of sweet beechwood smoke meets the nose, and rich flavours of toasted malt and sweet-cured bacon follow on the palate.

On tap at the brewery during their Oktoberfest shindig. Pours a lightly hazy cola brown, some tight off white head. Nose has cold smoke, a little smoked fish, some plum/prune, raisin, wet malt. Flavor is similar, sweet with malt and a bit of cola, the smoke is there, a little BBQ sauce, some raisin. Finishes watery and cheap smoke. A miss.

Keg at A&H. It pours darkest ruby - brown with a decent white head. The rich, toasty, smoked action, meaty, earth, tobacco and a touch of liqourice. The taste is smooth, rich roasted malt, ashy, smoke, charred wood, liqourice, malt loaf, dark fruit, earth and plum with a dry, toasty finish. Medium body and moderate, foamy carbonation. Not bad.
