Our first beer out of our new brewery is a homage to our building's former life as a Toaster Pastry factory. Biscuit malts give the beer a slightly nutty, crust-like flavor, complementing the fruity, jammy character of the hops. The toasty-sweet aroma, balanced by a bite of hops, makes this one of our favorite brews yet

Purchased at Crown Liquors in Chicago, IL; enjoyed at home after work on a cool winter evening while watching Bourne Supremacy. This stuff is really good. Appearance is a dark copper / red with a robust frothy off white head. Aroma is rich in hops and caramel malt. Taste is pretty damn good, definitely biscuit / malty with a nice bitter finish and a fantastic flavor. Very much enjoyable, and a great deal for a 20 oz can.

Can from the Lazy Dog Deep amber with a good sized bubbly off white head. Tropical fruity, pine, biscuity, bready, with bits of sweet fruitiness. Interesting beer, I enjoyed it.

1 pint 1.2 oz can from my friend Tim. Nose is first very grassy, fading to light piney and nutty. Lightly hazy rusty orange with a medium lightly lacing beige head. Flavor is moderately bitter and nutty with a bitter finish.

19.2 oz. can purchased at Julio’s Liquors for a price of $5.49 before the wild six discount. Darker amber with moderate carbonation level. Aroma of toasted grains, citrus hops with toffee.

The bready “toaster” malts are here for sure. The hops are all about citrus (grapefruit, lemon) but it also has a slight pine note in the back of the sip. So I think the “jam” aspect the brewer speaks of is REALLY a bit of a stretch. The good news is the beer itself is a red ale all the way. Hops profile is pretty decent. Nice balance of citrus and pine. And for the price it’s worth the 19 oz. pounder can. But don’t expect any kind of jam or jelly, because it’s not here.

Enjoy by 02/02/2016.
This was poured into a snifter and a nonic. Everything seems in order for both glasses as far as same smell, appearance, taste and feel. Here’s the rest.
The appearance was a hazy burnt amber color. A one finger white foamy head dissipates within less than about a half minute. An ample amount of thin lacing rims the glass in foamy rings.
The smell starts off with bitter citrus rind. Light fruits (berry-like) enter into a light biscuit edge. After a bit of warming, the strawberry actually becomes more discernible.
The taste was mainly bitter with an ample amount of dry sweetness on my tongue. There’s no aftertaste or finish.
On the palate, this one sat about a light to medium on the body with a big dry bitterness laying down on my tongue. Honestly, to me, it slightly detracts from it’s sessionability.
Overall, is this an American Strong ale, an AIPA or an American Red ale? Honestly, I don’t know, but it seems to hit a combination of the three. I think I could come back to this in small doses and am glad I got to try it.

Draft 14 oz pour at Malt and vine. Pours a glowing copper red color with an active fizz head. Heavy aroma of earthy hops. I enjoy the subtle beer sweetness to this, but it’s got a harsh bitterness to it that I didn’t expect. At least not this much. Kinda overpowers the sweetness that is the shining feature in this one for me. Overall a good beer, but with a tiny adjustment, this could be upgraded to damn good. (See my beer adjective scale in the near future).
