3 Fonteinen Oude Kriek is the result of macerating hand-picked whole sour cherries on young lambic for at least four months, in a proportion of one kilogram of fruit per litre of lambic. The kriek lambic is then blended again with more young lambic to obtain a minimum intensity of 35% fruit, and is bottled immediately afterwards. These bottles are then stored in our cellars for at least five months so that the kriek lambic can develop into a beautiful, traditional, and refined Oude Kriek. With a pleasant tartness and organic notes of almond and cinnamon as it warms in the glass, 3 Fonteinen Oude Kriek, will age perfectly but may lose some of the vibrant red colours and forest fruit aromas. This unfiltered and unpasteurised lambic is all-natural with no artificial juices, syrups, or sugars added. Traditional Lambic is living, cultural heritage rooted in the Zenne valley!

Bottled 27/06/19, green bottle. Pretty loud pop, pours bright red, fine white bubbles. Smells deep funky, rich meaty cherry, a bit savory. Light carbonation, slight pucker. Taste is medium sour, dry. Some oak, plenty of funk. Cherries are powerful. Nice.

Deep bright, muddied pink and strong ruby coloured body with a beautiful, light pink head that starts at about six centimetres in height and fades very slowly. Aroma of amazing soured cherries with a lot of residual sugars and a strong dose of oak, cedar, wood foeders and a lot of barrel aging making this not only soured, but showing a lot of super dry elements, but the malt can't be forgotten here, it's still noticeable in the nose. Light to Medium-bodied; Assertive effervescence; Strong soured and tart pure cherry flavours that hit so nicely and elegantly and lip puckering that they draw you in for another sip almost immediately. Some subdued and soft sugars come through and a little bit of the malt shows near the end, but this of course is all about the soured and fruity cherries. Aftertaste shows a lot of yeast, some slight breadiness, but a lot of fresh cherries, dry oak and tart foeder notes that bring out a lot of complexity, while showing a bit a punch from the alcohol and the malts with a lot of sweetness still here of course. Overall, an amazing beer, as expected and one that should be sampled by everyone, or at least looked for. This one didn't let me down and while I can't find it regularly here in the states, I wish I could have it a few more times. Great to have! I sampled this 37,5 cL caged and corked bottle, purchased from De Bierkoning in Amsterdam, Holland, The Netherlands on 17-January-2015 for €7,50, just fifteen days after my second daughter was born, sampled on the streets of Amsterdam with my friend - Thanks Phil for the memories!
