Cask-conditioned at Chums, Redland, Bristol April 2016. Near black with a moderate, off-white, head. An easy drinking stout, with some chocolate, slightly toasty malts and a dryish finish. Fine.

Almost clear dark brown beer, a few pale tan bubbles. Palate is light and semi dry, reasonable fine carbonation. Mellow dark malts, trace of coffee. Malty dark chocolate and mild tangy fruits. Light semi dry finish leaves a malty linger. Not bad.

Bottle from the brewer’s own stall at the Thame Food Festival. Brown-black with a thin cream head and a light fizz. Had it straight after the great XT9 but this was even better. You know you’re going to enjoy a beer when the first sip puts a great big smile on your face. Dark chocolate, roasted malt and something sweet and juicy behind- maybe blackberries. Some smoke and a very long-lasting roasty aftertaste. Super stuff.

(Cask at White Horse, Parson’s Green, London, 24 Apr 2015) Black colour with foamy, beige head. Malty, roasted nose with coffee, dark chocolate and black rye bread. Malty, roasted taste with notes of coffee, dark chocolate, black rye bread and a balanced roasty bitterness in a dry finish. Medium body, quite dry. Well made and well balanced stout. Nice one.

Cask gravity at Reading Beer Festival 2015. Black beer lasting tan head. Dark fruit aroma. Molasses bit of tar. Dates and prunes. Tasty enough. A juicy stout rather than a dry roast one . Yes tar. OK condition some sting on the finish. A little blackcurrant persists in the mouth.

On tap at The St Aldates Tavern, Oxford, Tuesday 10th March 2015 Pours dark brown with a light beige rim. Malty and a little dry, a bit of woodiness, mhhh...actually there is a touch of sweetness here also. Quite traditional but also quite decent, my only criticism is that it is just a little thin.
