Bottle shared at chriso’s Easter 2015 tasting - London. Pours cloudy amber with a frothy off-white head. The nose holds bread, light spices, dry caramel. Medium sweet flavor with mellow marmalade, dried out caramel, grains. Medium bodied with average carbonation. Toasted grains in the finish, some leathery fruits. Eh, so so.

Bottle split at Chriso Easter tasting, acquired from Callans Dundalk, 04/04/15. Reddish amber with a decent beige covering. Nose is caramel, candied fruit peel, earthy notes, light hop presence. Taste comprises more candied fruit peel, light earthy hop strokes, Caramac bar, malt, bitter orange. Medium bodied, fine carbonation, semi drying close. Ok stuff, lacks depth for ABV, more a hoppy amber - with not quite enough hops than an ES.

4th April 2015
ChrisOs Easter Tasting. Hazy amber beer, good cream colour head. Palate is airy, dry and crispy. Sweetish pale malts, light cream. Tea! Dried fruits. Mild spice. Dry airy finish. Not bad.

Bottle at ChrisO’s. It pours hazy deep red with a small beige head. The nose is bitter-sweet, toasty, red fruits, berry, caramel and candied stuff. The taste is bitter-sweet, earth, toast, brown bread, grainy, leather, varnish, toffee, red fruits and light alcohol with a drying finish. Pretty bitter actually. Medium body and fine carbonation. Ain’t nothing wrong with it. Solid enough.

Bottle from Drinkstore [120414]
Red amber, beige head, good lacing
Aroma of slight red fruits, slightly musty, touch of alcohol, surprising lack of aroma
Taste of sweet fruity caramel, red berry fruits, hedgerow fruits, some bitter hops, slight yeast ester, slight grassy, touch of candi sugar
Palate - soft carb, medium to full body, oily, smooth. Finish soft sweet malts, some sweet red fruits with a fairly long rather bitter tail
Overall - Reasonably good, but the least impressive of the BPBP beers I’ve tried so far

I love that the brewer wanted to go big here, and although this fell slightly short in the flavor department, this was overall a solid beer. Poured reddish brown into the tulip glass, large white head that lasted throughout the life of the beer. I gave this one a wide berth thinking that the flavor would expand the more it warmed up, but it was cellar temperature when opened, so there wasn’t a whole lot of opening up left. I think what was lacking especially was more hops, perhaps cascade or centennial to give it a big grapefruit nose. Overall solid but with a little tweaking this could be something really special.
