Cask at Batemans Visitor Center and Pub, Wainfleet, Lincs. Just called Lincoln Red, but same beer. Pours dark amber with a small off white head. Aroma of malt, yeast, chocolate, treacle, slight herbal and price notes, and quite subtle blackcurrant. Moderate sweetness, medium bitterness. Medium body, slight oily texture, soft carbonation. Favourite of the 5 they had on tap on this visit.

Cask-conditioned at the Commercial Rooms (JDW), Bristol, March 2015. Deep amber in colour, with a decent, off-white, head. Sweet black currants and red berries, plenty of house yeast character, some sweetish malts before a gentle finish. Pleasant.

Crosse Keys. Spoons. Cask. Clear amber beer, no real head. Palate is airy and semi dry with decent fine carbonation. Starts off with a mild but unwelcome sulphur note. Does deliver some of the promised blackcurrant but as much cherry as well. Light bubblegum ester, well buried. Modest lemony citrus on the back end. Light finish. A tasty beer, just a shame about the dodgy start.

This was enough of a mess that I’m going to try and seek it out because this can’t be how it’s meant to be. It’s either been pulled by a numpty or kept badly. Taste is okay with berries and a hint of hop but its flat, no aroma, a bit grim-looking and generally not up to scratch.
